Editorial Decisions & Revision
Decisions are made by the editors on the basis of scholarly merit, the reviewers' reports, and the journal's scope.
| Decision | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Declined without review | Outside the scope, below basic standards, similarity above 20%, or ethical problems. |
| Accept | Ready for publication, apart from copyediting. |
| Minor revision | Small changes; revised manuscript checked by the editor. |
| Major revision | Substantial changes; revised manuscript normally returned to the reviewers. |
| Reject | Not suitable for publication in the journal. |
Who decides and when
The handling editor recommends a decision; the Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision, normally within four months of submission. Authors are usually given four weeks for minor revisions and eight weeks for major revisions. The APC is requested only after acceptance and plays no part in any decision, and acceptance is never guaranteed at submission.
Authors who disagree may appeal (see Editorial Appeals).
