Authorship Changes & Disputes

The list and order of authors should be final at submission. Changes are possible only with good reason and the agreement of every author.

Requesting a change

  • The corresponding author writes to the editor explaining the reason for adding, removing, or reordering authors.
  • Every author, including any being added or removed, confirms the change in writing.
  • Changes after acceptance are allowed only in exceptional cases, and are not possible after publication except through a formal correction.

Disputes

The journal does not adjudicate authorship disputes. If authors disagree, the editors pause the manuscript and ask the authors to resolve the matter, if necessary through their institutions. The editors follow the COPE flowcharts on changes in authorship and may contact the institutions concerned.
