Editorial Competing Interests
Editors must not handle any manuscript in which they have a competing interest.
- Editors declare their interests to the Editor-in-Chief every year and whenever a new interest arises.
- An editor must step aside from a manuscript if they are a co-author, a recent collaborator or colleague at the same department, a supervisor or student of an author, a close friend or relative, or a rival, or if they have a financial or other interest in the outcome.
- The manuscript is then reassigned to another editor, and the conflicted editor has no access to it.
- If the Editor-in-Chief has a conflict, another senior editor takes the decision.
Manuscripts written by editors are covered by Submissions from Editors.
