Plagiarism Policy

JSD does not tolerate plagiarism in any form. Plagiarism is the use of another person's words, data, figures or ideas without proper acknowledgement, and it is a serious breach of publication ethics.

Forms of Plagiarism

Mosaic plagiarism Mixing copied phrases with one's own words without citation
Paraphrasing without citation Rewording someone's ideas or findings without acknowledging the source
Self-plagiarism (text recycling) Reusing substantial parts of one's own published text without citation
Duplicate publication Publishing the same data or results in more than one journal
Translation plagiarism Translating a published work from another language without citation
Data and image plagiarism Using another person's data, figures or images without permission and citation

Similarity Check

All submitted manuscripts are checked with [Turnitin] at screening and again before publication. References, quotations and small matches (< 1%) are excluded from the calculation.

Overall similarity Action
≤ [20]% (no single source > [5]%) Proceeds to review
[21–30]% Returned to the authors for revision before review
> [30]% or any copied passage without citation Rejected

The percentage is a guide only; the editor assesses where the similarity occurs. Matches in standard method descriptions and common phrases are considered differently from copied results, discussion or conclusions.

Handling Plagiarism

  • Before publication: the manuscript is returned for revision or rejected, depending on the extent.
  • After publication: the article is corrected or retracted under the Correction & Retraction policy.
  • Serious or repeated cases: the authors' institution may be notified, and the authors may be barred from submitting for [3] years.

Tip: Authors are encouraged to check their own manuscript for similarity before submission and to cite all sources, including their own previous work.
