Author Guidelines

Please read these guidelines carefully before submitting. Manuscripts that do not follow the guidelines or the official JSD template will be returned to the authors without review.

1. Before You Submit

  • The manuscript must be original, not previously published, not under review elsewhere, and not presented at a conference, seminar or forum.
  • All authors have approved the manuscript and agree with its submission to JSD.
  • The research complies with ethical standards; approval numbers are available for studies involving humans, animals or protected biological resources.
  • Read the Focus and Scope, Publication Ethics, Authorship, Plagiarism and Generative AI policies.

2. Language and Format

  • Write in English (preferred) or Indonesian. Non-native English authors are strongly encouraged to have the manuscript proofread before submission.
  • Use the official JSD template (Microsoft Word, .docx). Do not change the template styles, margins or font.
  • Maximum length is 15 A4 pages, including tables, figures and references.
  • Use SI units, standard nomenclature (IUPAC for chemistry, binomial nomenclature in italics for organisms) and define all abbreviations at first use.

3. Manuscript Structure

Section Guidance
Title Concise, specific and informative; maximum 15 words; no abbreviations or formulae; Title Case
Authors Full names without academic titles. Mark the corresponding author with an asterisk (*)
Affiliations Department, faculty, institution, city and country for each author, linked by superscript numbers
Corresponding author Name, affiliation and an active institutional email address
Abstract One paragraph of 150–250 words: background (1–2 sentences), objective, methods, key quantitative results and conclusion. No citations, figures, tables or equations
Keywords 3–5 keywords separated by semicolons, in alphabetical order; avoid general terms and words already in the title
Introduction Background and importance of the problem, state of the art supported by recent literature, research gap, novelty and specific objectives
Methods Materials (grade, supplier, country), instruments (model, manufacturer, country), procedures in logical order with conditions, and data analysis (statistics, software, significance level). Cite published methods; describe only modifications
Results and Discussion Present results clearly with tables and figures, then interpret them, explain mechanisms and compare with previous studies. Do not repeat data shown in tables
Conclusion Answer the objectives directly in one or two paragraphs: key findings, significance, implications, limitations and future research. No citations
Back matter Acknowledgements; Funding; Author Contributions (CRediT); Conflict of Interest; Data Availability Statement; Ethical Approval; Declaration of Generative AI use; Supplementary Materials
References APA Style 7th edition (see section 5)

4. Tables, Figures and Equations

  • Number tables and figures consecutively (Table 1, Figure 1) and cite each in the text before it appears.
  • Table captions go above the table; figure captions go below the figure. Captions must be self-explanatory.
  • Use horizontal lines only in tables (no vertical lines). State units in column headings and explain symbols in table notes.
  • Figures must be original, sharp, at least 300 dpi, with labelled axes and units, and readable in greyscale. Upload original figure files as supplementary files.
  • Images (micrographs, gels, blots) must not be manipulated beyond adjustments of brightness and contrast applied to the whole image.
  • Write equations with the Word equation editor, centred and numbered consecutively on the right, e.g., (1). Define all symbols.

5. Citations and References (APA 7th)

JSD uses APA Style 7th edition. We strongly recommend using a reference manager such as Mendeley or Zotero with the APA 7th style.
