JSD follows the authorship criteria of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and COPE guidance. Authorship gives credit and carries responsibility and accountability for the published work.
Authorship Criteria
Each author must meet all four criteria:
- Substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work, or to the acquisition, analysis or interpretation of data.
- Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content.
- Final approval of the version to be published.
- Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions about accuracy or integrity are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Acknowledgement of Non-author Contributors
Contributors who do not meet all criteria — for example, those who provided technical help, sample collection, laboratory access, language editing, funding acquisition or general supervision only — should be named in the Acknowledgements with their consent.
Unacceptable Authorship Practices
| Practice | Description |
|---|---|
| Gift or honorary authorship | Listing a person who did not contribute substantially, e.g., a department head |
| Guest authorship | Adding a well-known name to increase the chance of publication |
| Ghost authorship | Omitting a person who made a substantial contribution |
| Purchased authorship | Buying or selling author positions |
| AI authorship | Listing a generative AI tool as an author |
Author Contributions (CRediT)
Each author's role must be stated in the Author Contributions section using the CRediT taxonomy, e.g.: A.B.: Conceptualization, Methodology, Writing – Original Draft; C.D.: Formal Analysis, Visualization; E.F.: Supervision, Writing – Review & Editing.
Corresponding Author
- Acts on behalf of all co-authors and handles all communication with the journal.
- Ensures that all authors have seen and approved the submission and its revisions.
- Ensures that all authors are listed correctly, with accurate affiliations and ORCID iDs.
Changes in Authorship
Adding, removing or reordering authors after submission requires a written request to the editor explaining the reason, signed by all authors (including any author being removed). Changes are not permitted after acceptance except in exceptional cases approved by the Editor-in-Chief.
ORCID: All authors are encouraged to register an ORCID iD and link it to their OJS profile.
