Peer-Review-Process

All manuscripts submitted to JSD undergo double-blind peer review: the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other throughout the process. Each manuscript is evaluated by at least two independent reviewers.

Review Workflow

1

Submission — The author submits the manuscript through OJS and receives an automatic acknowledgement.

2

Initial screening — About [7] days. The editor checks scope, template compliance, completeness, anonymisation and similarity (Turnitin). Manuscripts outside the scope or with high similarity are desk-rejected; minor formatting problems are returned to the author.

3

Reviewer assignment — The section editor invites at least two reviewers with relevant expertise and no conflict of interest.

4

Review — About [4] weeks. Reviewers assess the manuscript and submit a recommendation with comments to the author and confidential comments to the editor.

5

Editorial decision — The editor considers the reviews and decides: accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject.

6

Revision — Max. [2] weeks for minor and [4] weeks for major revision. Authors revise and submit a point-by-point response letter. Major revisions are usually returned to the reviewers.

7

Final decision — The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision on acceptance and issues the acceptance letter.

8

Production — Copyediting, layout, proofreading by the author (within [3] days), DOI assignment and publication in the April or October issue.

Review Criteria

Criterion Questions considered
Originality and novelty Does the work offer new results, methods or insights?
Scientific soundness Are the design, methods and analysis appropriate and rigorous?
Results and interpretation Are conclusions supported by the data? Is the discussion compared with relevant literature?
Clarity Is the manuscript well organised and clearly written?
References Are the references relevant, sufficient and recent?
Ethics Are there concerns about plagiarism, data integrity or research ethics?

Possible Decisions

Decision Meaning
Accept The manuscript is accepted without further changes
Minor revision Small corrections are needed; usually checked by the editor
Major revision Substantial changes are needed; the revision is re-reviewed
Reject The manuscript is not suitable for publication in JSD

Additional Provisions

  • If reviewers disagree substantially, the editor may invite an additional reviewer.
  • Manuscripts submitted by editors are handled by another editor without any involvement of the submitting editor.
  • Revisions not returned within the deadline may be treated as new submissions or withdrawn.
  • The average time from submission to first decision is about [8] weeks.

Appeals: Authors may appeal a decision once by writing to the Editor-in-Chief at jsd@uny.ac.id with a detailed justification. The appeal is assessed by an editor not involved in the original decision, and the outcome is final.
