Research Data & Reproducibility

Policy

Ethnomathematics Journal encourages open, transparent research. Authors should make the data and materials behind their findings available where this is possible and appropriate, and should describe their methods in enough detail for others to follow and check them. The journal follows the COPE Core Practice on data and reproducibility.

Data availability statement

Every article includes a data availability statement that says where the data and materials can be found, or why they cannot be shared. Acceptable ways to share include:

  • A deposit in a trusted repository, with a persistent identifier such as a DOI.
  • The data in the article or in supplementary files.
  • Availability on reasonable request, with a reason why open sharing is not possible.

Data that cannot be shared

  • Data that could identify participants, or that are covered by consent or ethical conditions, are not shared in a way that breaks them. See the Ethical Clearance Statement.
  • Cultural knowledge belonging to a community is shared only in the way that the community has agreed to.
  • Third-party data that are under a licence or restriction are cited, with the source and the conditions.

Reproducibility

  • Describe the design, participants or sources, instruments, procedures, and analysis in the Method section.
  • Where possible, share the instruments, interview or observation protocols, and analysis code or steps.
  • Cite datasets and software in the references.

Concerns

The editors may ask for the data or for an explanation if there are doubts about the findings. Serious problems with data can lead to a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction. See Publication Ethics.
