Plagiarism Policy
Plagiarism and Research Integrity Policy
Ethnomathematics Journal is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring the originality of all published works. All manuscripts submitted to the journal must be free from plagiarism, including self-plagiarism and inappropriate reuse of previously published material.
Originality and Proper Attribution
Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original and that no data, text, or ideas from other sources are presented as their own. Proper acknowledgment of prior work must always be provided. This includes material that is directly quoted, closely paraphrased, or summarized. Quotation marks must be used for verbatim text, and permission must be obtained when copyrighted material is reproduced.
Plagiarism and Self-Plagiarism
Plagiarism includes copying text, ideas, images, or results without appropriate citation, as well as excessive reuse of an author’s previously published work without disclosure (self-plagiarism). Manuscripts showing unethical overlap may be rejected.
Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:
-
copying text, ideas, data, images, or results from other sources without proper citation;
-
presenting another author’s work as one’s own;
-
excessive paraphrasing without acknowledgment of the original source;
-
self-plagiarism, including significant overlap with the author’s previously published work without proper disclosure or citation.
Author Responsibility
Authors are responsible for ensuring that:
-
all sources are properly cited,
-
quotations are clearly indicated,
-
submitted work is original,
-
permissions are obtained when required.
Submission to the journal indicates that authors agree to this plagiarism policy.
Redundant Publication (“Salami Publishing”)
A single study should not be inappropriately divided into multiple manuscripts solely to increase publication output. Submissions derived from the same dataset or research project must demonstrate clear novelty and substantial additional contribution.
Data Integrity and Research Transparency
Results must be presented clearly, honestly, and accurately. Fabrication, falsification, selective reporting, or inappropriate manipulation of data including image-based manipulation, is strictly prohibited. Authors are expected to follow discipline-specific standards for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Similarity Screening
The journal uses plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin) to screen all submitted manuscripts prior to peer review. Similarity reports are evaluated by editors to determine whether overlap constitutes acceptable citation practice or potential misconduct.
Acceptable Similarity
Manuscripts should demonstrate substantial originality. Similarity may be acceptable when it occurs in:
-
references and bibliography,
-
commonly used methodological descriptions,
-
properly quoted and cited material.
Editorial Actions
If plagiarism or unethical overlap is identified, the journal will take appropriate action depending on the severity:
-
Minor overlap: authors may be asked to revise and properly cite sources.
-
Moderate overlap: manuscript may be returned for major revision or rejected.
-
Severe plagiarism: immediate rejection and possible notification to the authors’ affiliated institution.
When ethical concerns are identified, the journal may:
-
request revision and clarification,
-
reject the manuscript, or
If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the journal may issue corrections, retractions, or removal of the article in accordance with publication ethics standards.
