Ethical Clearance Statement

DIMENSIA | FOR AUTHORS

DIMENSIA: Jurnal Kajian Sosiologi is committed to promoting ethical standards, academic integrity, and responsible research practices in Sociology and Sociology Education. Authors are expected to conduct research in accordance with applicable ethical principles, institutional regulations, and the rights and dignity of research participants.

Research Ethics Policy

Research ethics constitutes an essential component of responsible scholarly publication. Authors submitting manuscripts to DIMENSIA should ensure that their research protects the rights, privacy, safety, and well-being of individuals and communities involved in the study.

Ethical considerations are particularly important in social research involving interviews, questionnaires, ethnographic observations, educational settings, vulnerable populations, and sensitive personal or social information.

Fundamental Ethical Principles

PRINCIPLE 01

Informed Consent

Researchers should obtain voluntary and informed consent from participants when applicable. Participants must receive sufficient information about the research objectives, procedures, potential risks, and their right to withdraw.

PRINCIPLE 02

Privacy and Confidentiality

Authors must protect participants' identities and personal information. Confidential research data should be stored securely and disclosed only when appropriately authorized.

PRINCIPLE 03

Respect for Participants

Researchers must respect the dignity, autonomy, cultural background, and social circumstances of participants. Participation must be voluntary and free from coercion.

PRINCIPLE 04

Research Integrity

Authors must report research procedures and findings accurately and transparently. Fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, and misrepresentation of ethical approval are unacceptable.

Ethical Approval Requirements

Research involving human participants should be conducted in accordance with applicable institutional and national ethical regulations. Where required, researchers must obtain approval from an authorized research ethics committee or institutional review board before collecting research data.

Ethical Clearance Documentation

Authors whose research requires formal ethical approval should provide the name of the approving institution or ethics committee, approval number, and approval date in their manuscript, where applicable. Supporting documentation should be available upon reasonable editorial request.

Studies that do not require formal ethical approval must still comply with relevant ethical principles. Authors should explain the basis for the absence of formal approval when such information is relevant to the research design.

Ethical Considerations in Sociological Research

Interviews and Surveys

Researchers should explain the purpose of the study, obtain appropriate consent, and ensure confidentiality when collecting information through interviews, questionnaires, or focus group discussions.

Educational Research

Research involving students, teachers, or educational institutions should obtain relevant permissions and protect participants' privacy. Additional safeguards, including parental or guardian permission where required, must be considered when minors are involved.

Ethnographic and Community Research

Researchers should respect local customs, community values, and participants' autonomy while minimizing potential social, cultural, and psychological risks.

Literature and Secondary Data Studies

Research based exclusively on published literature or appropriately accessible secondary data may not require formal ethical approval, depending on applicable regulations and the nature of the data used. Authors must ensure responsible data use and proper attribution.

Ethical Clearance Statement in Manuscripts

Authors should include an appropriate ethical statement in their manuscripts. The following examples may be adapted according to the actual ethical approval status and research methodology.

A. Research with Ethical Approval

"This study was reviewed and approved by [Name of Ethics Committee or Institution] (Approval Number: [Number], Approval Date: [Date]). The research was conducted in accordance with applicable ethical standards. Informed consent was obtained from all participants, where applicable."

B. Research Without a Formal Approval Requirement

"Formal ethical approval was not required for this study under the applicable institutional guidelines because [state the specific reason]. Ethical principles relating to voluntary participation, informed consent, confidentiality, and responsible data management were observed as applicable."

C. Literature Review or Publicly Available Data

"Ethical approval was not applicable to this study because it was based exclusively on published literature and publicly available information without direct involvement of human participants or access to identifiable private data."

Note: These statements are examples only. Authors must provide accurate declarations reflecting their actual research circumstances and institutional requirements.
