Open Access Policy

Open Access Policy  ·  Jurnal Civics
Free to read, free to share.
Open access, licence, copyright, self-archiving, and reuse.
Revised version
This Open Access Policy is a revised version. It applies to manuscripts published from 2027, Volume 24 No. 1 onwards.
01
Policy
Jurnal Civics is fully open access, and this policy follows the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing of COPE, DOAJ, OASPA, and WAME, and the COPE Core Practices. They ask a journal to:
—  state clearly, on its website and on each article, its access status, its licence, and who holds the copyright;
—  use an open licence for open-access content, and say what readers and authors may do with it;
—  state how its content is preserved for the long term, and how it is funded, including author charges;
—  tell authors, before submission, what rights they keep and what rights they give.
Each point is answered in the sections below.
02
Summary
Everything the journal publishes is free to read from the day of publication, for anyone, with no charge to readers or their institutions. Open access supports the exchange of knowledge that citizenship and civic education research is meant for: teachers, students, policymakers, civil society, and citizens.
Reading Free from publication. No embargo, no subscription, no registration.
Licence CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.
Copyright Authors keep copyright for articles published from 2027. Up to and including 2026, the journal holds it.
Self-archiving Allowed for every version, at any time.
Fees Readers pay nothing. The Article Publication Charge is payable by authors only after acceptance.
03
Definition
The journal follows the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI). Readers may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, and link to the full texts, crawl them for indexing, use them as data in software, and use them for other lawful non-commercial purposes. The only barriers are those inherent in being online. The one requirement is that the work is credited and cited correctly.
04
Licence
Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). You may share (copy and redistribute in any format) and adapt (remix, transform, and build upon) the material, on these conditions:
Attribution Cite the authors, title, journal, DOI, and licence, and indicate any changes.
Non-commercial No commercial use without the written permission of the copyright holder.
Share-alike Adapted material carries the same licence.
The licence statement and the DOI appear on the first page and the landing page of each article. Third-party material in an article, such as a figure or a photograph, may carry another licence, which is stated in its caption. Read the licence text.
05
Copyright
—  Published from 2027 onwards: authors keep the copyright of their articles, without restrictions.
—  Published up to and including 2026: copyright is held by the journal.
—  Authors grant the journal the right of first publication and the right to distribute the article under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.
—  Authors may make separate, non-exclusive arrangements, such as depositing the article in a repository or including it in a book, if the original publication in the journal is acknowledged.
06
Access and fees
Readers pay no subscription, registration, or pay-per-view charge, and full texts need no login. Publication is supported by Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta with the support of AP3KnI. Authors pay an Article Publication Charge only after acceptance, and the editor may grant a waiver. See Author Fees.
There is no embargo. Articles are freely available from the moment they are published.
07
Self-archiving and sharing
Authors may deposit any version of their work (preprint, accepted manuscript, or published version) in an institutional or subject repository, on a personal website, or on an academic network, at any time and without embargo. A deposited copy should cite the original publication and link to its DOI (prefix 10.21831). See the Archiving Policy.
08
Discoverability and preservation
—  Article metadata, including licence information, is available through the OJS OAI-PMH interface and Crossref, so that it can be harvested and used for text and data mining.
—  The journal is indexed in DOAJ, SINTA, Garuda, and Google Scholar. See Indexing.
—  Content is preserved through the PKP Preservation Network and LOCKSS.
09
