Licensing Terms
What the licence lets you do.
CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 in plain words: permitted uses, credit, and permissions.
01The licence▾
All articles in Jurnal Civics are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). The full terms are in the legal code. This page explains in plain words what they mean for readers, authors, and institutions.
| Applies to | Every article published in the journal, whenever it was published. |
| Embargo | None. The licence applies from the day of publication. |
| Where it appears | On the first page and the landing page of each article. |
| Copyright holder | The author(s) from 2027 onwards. The journal up to and including 2026. See the Copyright Notice. |
02What you may do▾
— Read, download, print, and share the article in any medium or format.
— Quote it, translate it, summarise it, and build on it.
— Use it in teaching, research, theses, and non-commercial training and courses.
— Add it to a repository, a reading list, or an institutional collection.
— Use the text for non-commercial text and data mining.
03Three conditions▾
| Attribution (BY) | Credit the authors, the title, the journal, the DOI, and the licence, link to the licence, and indicate if you made changes. |
| NonCommercial (NC) | Do not use the material primarily for commercial advantage or monetary compensation without permission. |
| ShareAlike (SA) | If you remix, transform, or build on the material, distribute your contribution under the same licence. |
04How to give credit▾
Use this form, and say if you changed the material:

Do not suggest that the authors or the journal endorse you or your use of the work.
05Examples▾
| Allowed | A teacher hands out a PDF of an article in a civic education course. A university posts it in its repository. A student quotes it in a thesis. A researcher translates it and shares the translation under the same licence. |
| Needs permission | A company sells a collection of articles. A publisher puts an article in a paid book. A commercial training provider charges fees for a course based on an article. A website uses it to earn advertising income. |
| Not allowed | Removing the authors’ names, claiming the work as yours, applying a stricter licence to an adaptation, or implying the authors support your product or campaign. |
When it is unclear whether a use is commercial, ask the editorial office before you proceed.
06Commercial use and permissions▾
Commercial use needs the written permission of the copyright holder.
— Articles published from 2027 onwards: ask the author(s).
— Articles published up to and including 2026: ask the editorial office at journalcivics@uny.ac.id.
— Say which article you want to use, how, for how long, and for what audience.
07Third-party material▾
Figures, tables, photographs, and long quotations from other sources may not be covered by the article’s licence. Their source and licence are stated in the caption. Check the caption before you reuse such material, and ask the rights holder where it is not open.
08Licence for earlier articles▾
Articles published before this licence was applied remain free to read under their original terms. Commercial reuse requests for them go to the editorial office.
