Archiving

Jurnal Civics: Media Kajian Kewarganegaraan (p-ISSN 1829-5789; e-ISSN 2541-1918) is committed to the long-term preservation of, and permanent access to, everything it publishes. Published articles stay available to readers even if the journal stops publishing, changes platform, or suffers a technical failure. This policy describes how the journal’s content is archived, preserved, and made available.

In brief. Permanent DOIs (prefix 10.21831) · Digital preservation through the PKP Preservation Network and LOCKSS · Copies held by indexing databases and repositories · Authors may deposit any version of their work in any repository.

1. Digital Preservation Services

1.1 PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

  • The journal’s published content is preserved in the PKP Preservation Network, a free, private LOCKSS network for journals that use Open Journal Systems (OJS).
  • Copies of each published issue are deposited automatically and stored securely in several locations around the world.
  • If the journal ceases publication or its website becomes permanently unavailable, the archived content is released and remains openly accessible.

1.2 LOCKSS

  • The journal uses the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries. Libraries can make permanent copies of the journal for preservation and restoration.
  • The journal’s LOCKSS Publisher Manifest is available at: https://journal.uny.ac.id/index.php/civics/gateway/lockss

2. Persistent Identifiers

  • Every article, and every correction, retraction, and published comment, receives a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) registered with Crossref under the prefix 10.21831.
  • DOIs remain permanently valid. If the journal’s web address changes, the DOIs are updated to point to the new location, so that citations keep working.

3. Additional Copies and Access Points

Metadata and/or full texts of published articles are also held and made accessible through:

  • Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta: the journal’s OJS server is hosted and backed up by the university, which is the journal’s publisher.
  • Garuda (Garba Rujukan Digital): the Indonesian national scholarly reference portal.
  • DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals): article-level metadata.
  • SINTA and Google Scholar: indexing and discovery.
  • Crossref: metadata linked to DOIs.

4. Back-up and Continuity

  • The OJS database and article files are backed up regularly by the university’s IT services, and back-up copies are kept on separate storage.
  • The journal keeps the final published files (PDF and, where available, HTML) of every issue.
  • If the journal ceases publication, is transferred to another publisher, or changes platform, the publisher ensures that:
    • all published content remains freely accessible at a stable location;
    • DOIs are updated;
    • preservation services are informed.
  • Published articles are never removed from the archive, except in the exceptional legal cases described in the Correction & Retraction policy. Even then, the metadata and a removal notice remain. Retracted articles remain archived and are clearly marked “RETRACTED”.

5. Self-Archiving by Authors

Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) licence. Authors are encouraged to deposit their work in institutional or subject repositories, on personal websites, and on academic networking sites, to increase its visibility and preservation.
