Author Fees
Jurnal Civics: Media Kajian Kewarganegaraan is an open-access journal. All articles are free to read, download, and share immediately on publication. To cover the costs of publishing, the journal charges an Article Processing Charge (APC), which is payable only after a manuscript has been accepted. This page explains the fees, what they cover, how to pay, and how to apply for a waiver.
In brief. No submission fee · No review fee · APC payable only after acceptance · No paid fast-track · Payment has no influence on editorial decisions · Waivers are available.
1. Fees
| Item | Authors from Indonesia | Authors from other countries |
|---|---|---|
| Article submission | Free | Free |
| Peer review | Free | Free |
| Article Processing Charge (APC), after acceptance | IDR 4,000,000 | Free |
| Book reviews | Free | Free |
| Corrections, retractions, and published comments | Free | Free |
- The APC is charged once per accepted article, regardless of the number of authors or pages, provided that the article is within the length limit of the Author Guidelines (5,000–8,000 words).
- There are no hidden or additional charges for colour figures, DOI registration, or online publication.
2. What the APC Covers
- Management of the editorial and peer-review process through OJS.
- Similarity checking.
- Copyediting, proofreading, and professional layout.
- DOI registration with Crossref and the deposit of metadata.
- Online publication with permanent open access, and digital preservation.
- Submission of metadata to indexing services.
3. Editorial Independence
- Editorial decisions are based solely on scholarly merit and peer review. Editors and reviewers do not know, and are not influenced by, whether the authors are able to pay or have requested a waiver.
- Payment does not guarantee acceptance and does not speed up the review process. The journal never asks for payment before acceptance.
- The journal does not offer paid fast-track review or publication. All manuscripts follow the same timeline described in the Peer Review Process.
4. How to Pay
- Acceptance letter and invoice. After the final decision to accept, the corresponding author receives an acceptance letter and an official invoice from the editorial office. The invoice includes the submission ID, the amount, and the payment details.
- Payment. Pay within 14 days of the invoice date by bank transfer to the official account stated on the invoice. Bank charges are paid by the sender.
- Confirmation. Upload the proof of payment in OJS (as a file in the submission’s Discussions), or send it by email, quoting the submission ID.
- Receipt. The journal confirms payment and issues an official receipt within 7 working days. The article then proceeds to copyediting and publication.
Beware of fraud. The journal only requests payment through an official invoice sent from journalcivics@uny.ac.id after acceptance. Do not pay any person or account that is not stated on the official invoice. If in doubt, contact the editorial office.
5. Waivers and Discounts
The journal is committed to ensuring that the APC is never a barrier to publication. Authors may apply for a full or partial waiver if:
- the corresponding author is based in a country classified as low-income or lower-middle-income by the World Bank, and has no funding for publication;
- the article is invited by the editors (for example, for a special issue);
- other cases of genuine financial hardship, at the discretion of the publisher.
How to apply:
- Request a waiver at submission, in the Comments for the Editor field in OJS, or by email to the editorial office. Explain the reasons briefly. Requests made after acceptance may not be considered.
- The managing editor and the publisher handle waiver requests separately from the editorial process. Editors and reviewers are not informed.
- The decision is communicated together with the acceptance letter.
6. Withdrawal and Refunds
- Withdrawal before acceptance is free of charge.
- Withdrawal after acceptance is possible only for compelling reasons (see the Correction & Retraction policy). If the APC has been paid and the article has not yet been published, the APC is refunded, minus bank charges.
- The APC is not refunded after publication, including when an article is later corrected or retracted.
- If the APC is not paid within the deadline and no waiver has been agreed, the editors may postpone or cancel publication after reminding the authors.
