01
Before you submit
|
What does the journal publish?
Original research articles, systematic literature reviews (PRISMA 2020), and book reviews on citizenship studies and civic education. See Focus and Scope and Types of Manuscript.
How long should my manuscript be?
5,000–8,000 words for articles and systematic reviews, including the abstract and references. 1,000–1,500 words for book reviews.
Which language and style?
English in British spelling, with references in APA 7th edition. See Reference Style & Manager.
Do I have to use the template?
Yes. Manuscripts that do not follow the manuscript template are returned without review.
Is a similarity check required?
Every manuscript is screened. The journal’s limit is a maximum of 20% overall, with no single match above 1%. Run your own check before submitting. See the Plagiarism Policy.
May I use generative AI?
Any use must be declared in the manuscript. AI tools cannot be listed as authors, and the authors remain responsible for the content. See the Generative AI Policy.

Ethics and declarations
|
Do I need ethical clearance?
Yes, for research involving people or data about them. It is mandatory from 2027. See the Ethical Clearance Statement.
Do I need to submit the Author Declaration Form?
Yes. It is mandatory from 2027. Complete it, sign it, and upload it with the manuscript. See the Author Declaration Form.
Can I change the author list after submission?
Only by a written request to the editors that all authors agree to. See the Authorship Policy.
Do I have to disclose conflicts of interest and funding?
Yes. Both are end-matter statements in every manuscript. See the Conflict of Interest Policy.

Submission and review
|
How do I submit?
Register or log in, then follow the submission guide. Upload the anonymised manuscript, the title page, the signed declaration, and any supplementary files.
Is the review anonymous?
Yes. The review is double-anonymous: remove author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, and self-identifying citations from the anonymised file.
How long does the process take?
Screening takes up to 7 days. The first decision usually comes within about 6 weeks, and the whole process takes no more than 17 weeks. See the Peer Review Process.
How many reviewers will read my paper?
At least three, each with 21 days.
How long do I have to revise?
1 week for minor revisions and 3 weeks for major revisions. One extension of up to 1 week may be requested.
What if I disagree with the decision?
You may appeal in writing within 30 days. Disagreement alone is not grounds for an appeal.
When will my article appear?
The journal publishes two issues a year, April and October. From Volume 24 (2027) each issue has a maximum of 15 articles, so acceptance is more competitive.

|
Is there a fee?

Can the fee be waived?
The editor may grant a full or partial waiver. Ask in the Comments to the Editor box when you submit. A request does not affect the review result.
Who owns the copyright?
For articles published from 2027 onwards, the author(s). For articles published up to and including 2026, the journal. See the Copyright Notice.
Under what licence is my article published?
CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, open access. See the Open Access Policy.
What if my published article has an error?
Contact the editors. See Correction, Retraction and Withdrawal.
