Peer Review Process

Jurnal Penelitian Ilmu Pendidikan (JPIP) implements a rigorous, transparent, and ethical peer review process to ensure the scientific quality, originality, and relevance of all manuscripts submitted for publication. To maintain impartiality and uphold international academic standards, JPIP operates a Double-Blind Peer Review system, where both the authors and the reviewers remain anonymous to each other throughout the evaluation process.

The editorial workflow consists of the following stages:

1. Initial Editorial Screening

Upon submission via the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, all manuscripts undergo an initial desk review by the editorial team. This screening evaluates the manuscript's relevance to the journal's Focus and Scope, adherence to the Author Guidelines, completeness of required documents, and basic academic quality. At this stage, manuscripts are also subjected to a similarity check using Turnitin (or equivalent plagiarism detection software) to ensure originality and prevent research misconduct. Manuscripts that do not meet these foundational criteria may be desk-rejected without further review.

2. Reviewer Assignment

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned by the Section Editor or Editor-in-Chief to a minimum of two independent expert reviewers with relevant expertise in the manuscript's subject area. To uphold the double-blind policy, all identifying information (author names, affiliations, and acknowledgments) is removed from the manuscript prior to distribution. Reviewers are required to declare any potential conflicts of interest and are bound by strict confidentiality agreements regarding the manuscript content.

3. Peer Review Evaluation

Reviewers are expected to evaluate the manuscript objectively, constructively, and professionally based on a standardized review rubric. The evaluation focuses on, but is not limited to:

  • Originality and Novelty: The extent to which the study offers new insights or contributes to the existing body of knowledge.
  • Methodological Rigor: The appropriateness, validity, and reliability of the research design, data collection, and analysis.
  • Theoretical and Practical Contribution: The significance of the findings to the field of education and their practical implications.
  • Clarity and Structure: The coherence, logical flow, and academic language of the manuscript.
  • Ethical Compliance: Adherence to research ethics, including informed consent and data privacy.

Reviewers must provide detailed comments and a clear recommendation (e.g., Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject) to the editor.

4. Manuscript Revision

Based on the reviewers' constructive feedback and the editor's synthesis, authors may be requested to revise their manuscripts. Authors must submit a "Response to Reviewers" document, detailing point-by-point how each comment has been addressed or rebutted with academic justification. Revised manuscripts are typically returned to the original reviewers (or new reviewers if necessary) for a second round of evaluation to ensure the revisions are satisfactory.

5. Editorial Decision

The Editor-in-Chief holds the final authority regarding the acceptance or rejection of a manuscript. The final decision is made based on the scientific merit of the manuscript, the recommendations of the reviewers, and compliance with the journal's editorial policies. The possible editorial decisions include: Accept as is, Accept with minor revisions, Resubmit for review (Major revisions), or Reject. The final decision is communicated to the corresponding author through the OJS system.

6. Confidentiality and Publication Ethics

JPIP strictly adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. Editors, reviewers, and editorial staff are obligated to maintain the absolute confidentiality of submitted manuscripts. Unpublished data, arguments, or materials disclosed in the manuscript must not be used by reviewers or editors for their own research or personal advantage. The journal upholds the principles of fairness, objectivity, and integrity throughout the entire review process.
