Abstract

This study examines the Kenduri Sko tradition of the Kerinci people in Jambi as a form of counter-hegemony against radical ideologies, drawing on an ethnographic qualitative approach conducted in Tarutung Village through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation with traditional leaders, religious figures, and community members. Kenduri Sko, a ceremonial practice embodying cooperation, solidarity, tolerance, and spirituality, serves as a medium for transmitting cultural values across generations. Through collective participation, traditional leaders, religious figures, and community elders integrate messages of peace, deliberation, and anti-violence into ritual activities, reinforcing social cohesion and early detection of deviant behaviours. Analysis of the Tarutung Village Customary Book, particularly Law Nan 12, reveals codified norms opposing acts of extremism, reflecting the harmony of custom and religion as tools of resistance. The findings indicate that Kenduri Sko strengthens communal resilience, fosters critical awareness, and safeguards local identity against ideological infiltration. Moreover, its principles can be integrated into higher education curricula—such as Pancasila and Civic Education—to promote inclusive, moderate, and nationally oriented character formation. By positioning local wisdom as both a cultural preservation strategy and a pedagogical resource, this research underscores the role of indigenous traditions in fostering social harmony and countering radicalisation.
