Abstract

Marriage is both divine law and a socio-cultural mechanism for the Megow Pak Lampung community in passing down local values between generations. This transition process is important to study as a crucial foundation for the realization of local democracy. This study aims to describe the traditional marriage mechanism of Megow Pak Lampung and its contribution to local democracy. This study uses a qualitative method with a narrative approach to explore and describe the results of the researcher's understanding as an academic in civic education and having experience with the traditional Megow Pak Lampung wedding. Data were obtained from participants through interviews, field notes, reflection journals, and literature. The research results show that Metagh and Sebambangan are voluntary marriage mechanisms, while Ramot and Nakad are the opposite. These various mechanisms open up space for deliberative democratic dialogue with cultural democracy in the practices of information transparency, respect for differing opinions, deliberation, equal social participation, the inheritance of democratic values, and respect for human dignity.
