R-W-C Policy

This policy states when Jurnal Penelitian Saintek (JPS) retracts, withdraws, or corrects an article, who may request it, and what happens to the article afterwards. It is the operative procedure behind the Correction and Retraction policy, and follows the COPE retraction guidelines.

▣ The Three Actions

↻ Correction
Used when part of an article is wrong but the findings stand: an error in a figure, a value, a citation, an affiliation, or the author list. The article remains in place and a correction notice is published alongside it.
⊘ Withdrawal
Used only before formal publication — a manuscript accepted but not yet assigned to an issue, or an article posted in error. Nothing enters the permanent record.
✖ Retraction
Used when the findings are unreliable or the article should not have been published. The article stays online, marked as retracted, with a notice explaining why.
⚠ Expression of concern
Used while a matter is under investigation and the evidence is not yet conclusive. It is replaced once the matter is settled.

✎ Who May Request It

  • Authors, where they discover a significant error in their own published work. The request is made in writing by the corresponding author, with the agreement of all authors, stating what is wrong and what correction is sought.
  • Readers and reviewers, by raising a concern with the editorial office, naming the article and the specific grounds.
  • The editors, on their own initiative, where evidence comes to light that the record is wrong.
  • An institution or funder, following its own investigation.

⌚ Withdrawal Before Publication

An author who wishes to withdraw a manuscript must write to the editorial office stating the reason. A manuscript may be withdrawn freely before peer review begins. Once review is under way, withdrawal is discouraged, because reviewers have already given their time; the editors will consider the reason given. Withdrawing a manuscript in order to submit it elsewhere after acceptance is a breach of publication ethics and is treated under the Research Misconduct policy.

↻ Procedure and Timing

Stage What happens
Request received Acknowledged within 14 days.
Assessment The Editor-in-Chief examines the evidence and, where misconduct is alleged, follows the Research Misconduct procedure.
Right of reply The authors are informed and given 30 days to respond.
Decision The editors decide which action is required and draft the notice.
Publication of the notice The notice appears in the next available issue, carries its own DOI, and is linked to and from the original article.
Notification Indexing services and databases are informed so that the change travels with the record.

⚖ What Does Not Happen

  • An article is never silently edited after publication.
  • A published article is never deleted from the site, and its DOI continues to resolve.
  • A retraction is never issued without giving the authors the opportunity to respond.
  • A notice is never removed once published.
