Journal History
Jurnal Penelitian Saintek (JPS) has served for many years as a forum for research in the sciences and engineering at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, and is now in its thirty-first volume. What began as a printed university research bulletin is today an accredited, fully online, open-access journal read well beyond its own campus.
⌚ Milestones
| Stage | What changed |
|---|---|
| Print era | The journal was established as a printed periodical under ISSN 1412-3991, publishing research from the university's science and engineering community. |
| Online edition | The journal registered e-ISSN 2528-7036 and began publishing the full text of every article online, free to read. |
| Open Journal Systems | Submission, review, and publication moved entirely into OJS, with double-blind peer review conducted through the platform. |
| DOI registration | Articles began carrying DOIs under the prefix 10.21831, registered with Crossref, making them citable and permanently resolvable. |
| National accreditation | The journal was nationally accredited under Decree No. 286/DST/C3/HM.01.00/2026. |
| Present | JPS publishes twice a year, in April and October, in open access under CC BY-SA 4.0, and is indexed in SINTA, Garuda, Google Scholar, and Dimensions. |
◉ Development of the Scope
The journal's early volumes drew mainly on work carried out within the university. As the research community grew, the scope widened to take in the full range of the sciences and engineering — from agriculture, chemistry, and physics to computer science, environmental engineering, and food science — alongside mathematics and science education, which remain a distinctive strength given the university's character. Today the journal receives submissions from institutions across Indonesia and abroad. The current statement of coverage is on the Focus and Scope page.
▣ Continuity of the Record
Every issue the journal has published remains available in full text through the journal's archives. Articles are not removed after publication; where a correction is needed, a notice is published and remains permanently linked to the original article. The journal also participates in CLOCKSS, so that the record survives independently of this website. See the Archiving policy.
