Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).

  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Settings Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 11-point font; Times New Roman: employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

These guidelines set out what Jurnal Penelitian Saintek (JPS) expects of a manuscript. Please read them before you begin writing, and check your manuscript against the checklist at the end before you submit. A manuscript that does not follow them is returned to the author at initial screening, which delays the review by several weeks.

1 · Before You Start

◉ Check the scope
The work must fall within the sciences, engineering, or science education. See the Focus and Scope.
☰ Choose the type
Each type has its own structure. See Types of Manuscript.
⬇ Use the template
Write in the official template from the start. See the Manuscript Template.
⚖ Read the policies
Authorship, conflicts of interest, generative AI, and plagiarism apply to every submission. See Publication Ethics.

2 · General Requirements

Item Requirement
Originality The work must be the authors' own, not published elsewhere and not under review at another journal.
Language English, with spelling used consistently throughout. Authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to have the manuscript edited before submission.
Length 5,000–8,000 words including the abstract and references, excluding tables, figures, and end-matter statements.
File format Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) in the journal's template. Do not submit a PDF.
Styles Keep the template's built-in styles for headings and body text. Do not change fonts, margins, or spacing by hand. Use no more than three heading levels.
Units and symbols SI units. Define every symbol and abbreviation at first use. Write equations with the Word equation editor, not as images, and number them consecutively.
Referencing APA 7th edition throughout, managed with Mendeley or Zotero. Prefer recent, peer-reviewed sources; about 25 or more references, most from the last ten years.

3 · Structure of the Manuscript

Section What it contains
Title Concise, specific, and informative, ideally no more than 20 words, in sentence case. Avoid abbreviations and openings such as “A study of”.
Authors Full names without academic titles, each linked to an affiliation (university and country). Mark the corresponding author with an asterisk and give an institutional email for every author. Add an ORCID iD for each author where possible.
Abstract 200–250 words in one paragraph, with no citations or undefined abbreviations. Cover, in order: purpose; design and method; main findings with key figures; and the originality and value of the contribution.
Keywords Three to five, separated by semicolons and in alphabetical order. Choose terms readers would search for and avoid words already in the title.
Introduction Background, a concise review of the literature, the research gap and why it matters, and the objective or hypothesis.
Method Enough detail for another researcher to repeat the work: design, materials or participants, instruments and equipment (with manufacturer and model), procedures, data analysis and software. Where relevant, state ethical approval, safety, and biosafety measures.
Results and Discussion Present the findings objectively, with adequate data, then interpret them against the literature, explaining why they confirm, extend, or contradict earlier work. State the novelty and implications.
Conclusion Answers the objective rather than repeating results. State implications and limitations and suggest future work. Introduce no new data or citations.
End matter In this order: Acknowledgements; Disclosure Statement; Funding; Data Availability Statement; Ethics Approval; Author Contributions (CRediT roles); Declaration of Generative AI Use; References. Where one does not apply, write “None” instead of deleting it.

4 · Tables, Figures, and Data

  • Number tables and figures consecutively in the order first cited, and place each after its first citation.
  • Put the number and title above a table or figure, and the source or note below it.
  • Tables must be editable Word tables, not images: horizontal rules only, no vertical lines, no shading.
  • Figures are inserted in line with the text, at least 300 dpi, with all text legible (at least 8 pt) and in English. Include scale bars and label axes with quantity and unit. They must remain readable in greyscale.
  • Reproduce a figure or table from another source only with written permission, and credit it in the caption.
  • Images such as gels, micrographs, and spectra must not be adjusted in a way that changes what they show.
  • Deposit the underlying data and code in a repository where possible and cite it in the Data Availability Statement.

5 · Citations and References

  • Cite in the text as (Author, year) or Author (year). Every citation must appear in the reference list and every reference must be cited.
  • Give the DOI of every reference that has one, as a full https://doi.org/ link.
  • Do not cite unpublished work, predatory-journal articles, or sources you have not read.
  • Cite your own earlier work only where it is relevant. Excessive self-citation is queried by the editors.

6 · Ethics Requirements

  • Research involving human participants or animals must have approval from a named ethics committee, and participants must have given informed consent.
  • Declare funding and any competing interest, as set out in the Conflict of Interest policy.
  • List as authors only those who meet the criteria in the Authorship Policy.
  • Disclose any use of generative AI, as set out in the Generative AI Policy.
  • Every manuscript is checked for similarity before review. See the Plagiarism Policy.
