Focus-and-Scope
Jurnal Penelitian Saintek (JPS) publishes high-quality research across the sciences and engineering. The journal is published twice a year, in April and October, by Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. It places particular emphasis on research carried out in Indonesia, while welcoming submissions from researchers worldwide.
◉ Focus
The journal exists to make rigorous science and engineering research available to the people who can use it: scientists, educators, senior researchers, project managers, research administrators, and advanced students. It particularly welcomes work that:
- introduces a new method, instrument, material, or model, rather than repeating an established procedure in a new place;
- addresses a problem of practical consequence in Indonesia or in comparable settings, and says plainly what the finding changes;
- reports enough methodological detail for another researcher to repeat the work;
- connects laboratory or computational findings with application, teaching, or policy.
☰ Scope
The journal covers, but is not limited to, the following subject areas.
| Subject area | Covers |
|---|---|
| Agriculture | Agronomy, horticulture, agricultural technology, post-harvest science. |
| Architecture and Civil Engineering | Structures, construction materials, building technology, urban and regional planning. |
| Astronomy and Space Engineering | Observational astronomy, astrophysics, space instrumentation. |
| Biology and Bio-System Engineering | Molecular and cell biology, biotechnology, bioprocess and biomedical engineering. |
| Chemistry and Chemical Engineering | Organic, inorganic, analytical and physical chemistry; process and materials chemistry. |
| Computer Science and Engineering | Artificial intelligence, data science, software engineering, networks, information systems. |
| Earth Science and Engineering | Geology, geophysics, geodesy, mining and geospatial technology. |
| Electrical, Electronic, and Electric Engineering | Power systems, control, telecommunications, embedded systems, instrumentation. |
| Environmental Science and Engineering | Pollution control, waste management, renewable energy, climate and sustainability. |
| Food Science and Engineering | Food chemistry, processing, safety, nutrition and functional food. |
| Mathematics and Mathematics Education | Pure and applied mathematics, statistics, and the teaching and learning of mathematics. |
| Organization of Laboratories | Laboratory management, safety, accreditation, and instrumentation. |
| Physics, Material, and Mechanical Engineering | Applied physics, materials science, manufacturing, thermodynamics, mechanics. |
| Science and Engineering Education | Curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, and teacher education in science and engineering. |
▸ Types of Manuscript
| Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Empirical study | Original experimental, computational, or field research with data collected and analysed by the authors. |
| Theoretical article | A model, derivation, or framework developed and argued analytically. |
| Case study | A detailed examination of a single system, site, process, or implementation, with its context and limits made explicit. |
| Systematic literature review | A synthesis of prior studies conducted with an explicit, replicable protocol and reported against PRISMA. |
⚠ Outside the Scope
- Work outside the sciences, engineering, and science or engineering education.
- Purely descriptive reports with no analysis or contribution beyond local record-keeping.
- Narrative literature reviews without a systematic, reproducible protocol.
- Student coursework or project reports submitted without development into a research article.
- Work already published elsewhere, or under review at another journal.
