Authorship Policy
Jurnal Penelitian Saintek (JPS) follows the authorship criteria of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), applied to research in the sciences and engineering. Authorship brings both credit and accountability, and must reflect who actually did the work.
★ Criteria for Authorship
An author is someone who meets all four of the following conditions:
- Substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of the data;
- Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content;
- Final approval of the version to be published;
- Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work, including the accuracy and integrity of any part of it.
Someone who contributed but does not meet all four criteria — for example by providing funding or equipment, running a routine measurement under supervision, giving administrative support, or editing the language — should be named in the Acknowledgements with their permission, not listed as an author.
⚠ Practices Not Permitted
| ✖ Gift or honorary authorship
Listing someone because of their seniority, their position, or their funding of the work, rather than their contribution.
|
✖ Guest authorship
Adding a well-known name to improve the manuscript's chances, without a real contribution.
|
| ✖ Ghost authorship
Omitting someone who made a substantial contribution, including a paid writer.
|
✖ Authorship for sale
Buying, selling, or trading authorship, or submitting work produced by a paper mill. Such manuscripts are rejected and the authors' institutions informed.
|
☰ Order, Correspondence, and Contributions
- The order of authors is decided by the authors themselves, before submission; the journal does not arbitrate it.
- One author is designated the corresponding author. That author submits the manuscript, communicates with the editors, confirms that all co-authors have approved the submission, and remains the point of contact after publication.
- Each author's contribution is described using CRediT roles such as conceptualisation, methodology, investigation, formal analysis, data curation, writing — original draft, writing — review and editing, supervision, and funding acquisition.
- Every author is asked to provide an ORCID iD, and at minimum the corresponding author must do so.
⇄ Changes to the Author List
Any addition, removal, or reordering of authors after submission requires a written request to the Editor-in-Chief from the corresponding author, stating the reason, together with written confirmation of agreement from all authors, including the author being added or removed. The manuscript is held while the request is considered. After publication, a change to the author list is possible only through a published correction notice.
☺ Generative AI
Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors, because they cannot take responsibility for the work. Any use of such tools must be disclosed, as set out in the Generative AI Policy.
