Plagiarism Policy
1. Statement
Jurnal Inovasi Teknologi Pendidikan (JITP) does not tolerate plagiarism in any form. Submitted manuscripts must be original, must not have been published before, and must not be under consideration by another journal. This policy follows the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and should be read together with our Publication Ethics and Peer Review Process pages.
2. What we consider plagiarism
- Using another person’s words, ideas, data, figures, tables, or code without proper attribution.
- Closely paraphrasing or lightly rewording someone else’s text without citing it.
- Self-plagiarism: reusing one’s own published text, data, or figures without disclosure and citation.
- Duplicate, redundant, or simultaneous submission of the same work.
- Fabricated or misattributed references, including those generated by software.
3. Author responsibilities
- Place directly quoted text in quotation marks and cite the source.
- Obtain permission from the copyright holder before reproducing substantial text, figures, or tables, and cite the source.
- Disclose in the Comments for the Editor field any related earlier publication, such as a thesis, dissertation, or conference paper, and cite it in the manuscript.
- Do not submit work that was previously published in another language without the permission of the copyright holder and a full citation of the original.
By submitting a manuscript, the authors confirm that it is original and that they have read this policy.
4. Screening procedure
Every submission is checked for similarity with anti-plagiarism software [Turnitin] during the initial editorial (desk) evaluation, before the manuscript is sent to reviewers. Editors examine the similarity report rather than relying on the overall percentage alone. Properly quoted and cited passages, reference lists, and standard methodological terms are taken into account. Manuscripts with an overall similarity above [10]% are returned to the authors for revision or rejected. Revised manuscripts may be screened again before acceptance.
5. Handling suspected plagiarism
- Before publication: the handling editor reviews the evidence and gives the authors an opportunity to respond. Depending on the extent of the overlap, the manuscript is revised or rejected.
- After publication: the journal follows the relevant COPE flowcharts and its policy on correction and retraction. Where appropriate, the authors’ institution and any other journal involved are informed.
Cases are graded by severity:
| Level | Typical case | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Minor | Limited unattributed text, or overlap confined to standard method descriptions | Authors are asked to revise and cite properly |
| Intermediate | Uncited passages in several sections, or substantial reuse of the authors’ own work | Manuscript is rejected |
| Severe | Large-scale copying, or duplicate or simultaneous submission | Manuscript is rejected; the authors’ institution or the other journal is notified |
6. Reporting a concern
Concerns about possible plagiarism in a submitted or published article can be sent to the editorial office at teknodik@uny.ac.id.
