Research Misconduct
Research Misconduct Policy
Jurnal Ekonomi dan Pendidikan (JEP) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity and publication ethics. The journal follows the principles and guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in handling allegations of research misconduct fairly, confidentially, and transparently.
Types of Research Misconduct
Research misconduct may include:
- Fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism
- Duplicate publication or simultaneous submission
- Inappropriate authorship and undisclosed conflicts of interest
- Citation manipulation and peer-review manipulation
- Unethical research practices
- Inappropriate use of generative artificial intelligence (AI)
1. Prevention and Detection
JEP takes preventive measures through editorial screening, similarity checks, and manuscript evaluation. Authors are responsible for the originality, accuracy, and ethical integrity of their research, providing appropriate acknowledgements and citations, disclosing conflicts of interest and funding sources, and reporting generative AI use when applicable. Reviewers and editors must maintain confidentiality, declare potential conflicts of interest, and uphold professional and ethical standards.
2. Handling Allegations
Allegations of research misconduct may be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief through the journal's official website. Reports should include a clear description of the suspected misconduct and supporting evidence. Anonymous reports may be considered when sufficient verifiable evidence is provided.
The editorial team assesses each allegation objectively and confidentially, gives the authors an opportunity to respond, and may consult independent experts or refer the case to the authors' institutions when necessary. The journal distinguishes deliberate misconduct from honest errors and handles each case proportionately. Concerns involving published articles are assessed to determine whether a correction, expression of concern, or retraction is necessary.
3. Actions and Sanctions
Depending on the nature and severity of the misconduct, JEP may take one or more of the following actions:
- Issue a formal warning or request revisions
- Reject a submitted manuscript
- Publish a correction or expression of concern
- Retract a published article
- Notify the relevant institution or funding body
- Restrict future submissions to the journal
Appropriate action will also be taken in cases involving reviewer or editorial misconduct.
4. Fairness and Confidentiality
JEP protects the confidentiality of all parties involved and ensures that allegations are assessed based on evidence rather than assumptions. Authors are given an opportunity to respond and may appeal editorial decisions by providing relevant evidence or justification. Records of misconduct cases are maintained confidentially, and the journal takes appropriate measures to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.
Related Policies
This policy is implemented in accordance with COPE guidance and should be read alongside JEP's Publication Ethics, Author Guidelines, and Peer Review Policy.
