Jurnal Civics: Media Kajian Kewarganegaraan has grown from a departmental journal into a nationally leading, internationally oriented forum for citizenship studies and civic education. The milestones below summarise its development.

2004
First published (print)
Jurnal Civics: Media Kajian Kewarganegaraan is first published by Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, managed by the Department of Civic Education, as a forum for research on citizenship and civic education (p-ISSN 1829-5789).
2016
Online publication
The journal moves to the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, with e-ISSN 2541-1918 and DOIs registered with Crossref under prefix 10.21831.
2019
Collaboration with AP3KnI
The journal begins publishing in collaboration with the Indonesian Association of Pancasila and Civic Education (AP3KnI), strengthening its national network of authors and reviewers.
2020
SINTA 1 accreditation
Accredited SINTA 1 from Vol. 20 No. 2 (2020), placing the journal in the highest national accreditation rank.
2025
Re-accreditation
SINTA 1 accreditation renewed until Vol. 25 No. 1 (2028), according to Decree Number 10/C/C3/DT.05.00/2025.
2026
International standards
The journal adopts new English-language templates and a full set of policies in line with COPE guidance: double-anonymous peer review, a 4-month decision timeline, plagiarism, AI, and open access policies. It is indexed in DOAJ, SINTA, Garuda, and Google Scholar, with 143 citations in Scopus (as of October 2026).

Authors keep copyright
From 2027, authors retain copyright of their articles, published under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 licence.
Today, the journal publishes two issues a year (April and October) and welcomes research articles, systematic literature reviews, and book reviews from scholars in Indonesia and around the world.
