Abstract

Abstrak: Wayang telah diakui UNESCO sebagai Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity ("˜Karya-karya Agung Lisan dan Tak Benda Warisan Manusia'). Wayang diakui sebagai karya agung karena wayang memunyai nilai tinggi bagi peradapan umat manusia. Wayang sarat nilai, baik yang tercermin pada karakter tokoh, cerita, maupun berbagai unsur lain yang mendukung. Semua itu baik dijadikan rujukan pengembangan karakter bangsa. Banyak orang tua yang menamai anaknya dengan nama tokoh wayang yang berkarakter. Setelah diakui sebagai karya agung, wayang harus dilestarikan eksistensinya, dan itu menjadi tugas seluruh bangsa di dunia khususnya bangsa Indonesia yang memiliki budaya wayang tersebut. Kita harus memercayai bahwa eksistensi bangsa Indonesia dewasa ini tidak lepas dari nilai-nilai luhur tradisional yang memiliki sejarah yang amat panjang dalam mengawal pertumbuhan dan kemajuan bangsa ini yang salah satunya adalah budaya wayang. Dalam era global dewasa ini keunggulan lokal amat dibutuhkan karena hal itulah yang membedakaannya dengan etnis dan bangsa lain.
