About the Journal

Jurnal Pendidikan Karakter (JPKA) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published twice a year, in April and October, by the Institute of Research and Community Service, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. The journal publishes theoretical, empirical, and methodological work on how character is developed, taught, and lived — in individuals, families, schools, communities, and society at large — and connects that research with educational practice and public policy.

☰ Focus and Scope in Brief

JPKA invites manuscripts on character education, character development, character formation and virtue, character and citizenship, character and social responsibility, character in the digital age, and the policy, management, and evaluation of character education. The journal accepts original research articles and systematic literature reviews. A full description is available on the Focus and Scope page.

⌚ Journal History

Jurnal Pendidikan Karakter was first published in October 2011, at a time when character education was being placed at the centre of national education policy in Indonesia. The journal was initially managed by the Institute for Educational Development and Quality Assurance (LPMPP) of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. In 2020 its management was transferred to the Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM) of the same university, which has published the journal since. Over that period the journal has moved to a fully online workflow in Open Journal Systems, adopted double-anonymous peer review, and been accredited by the Ministry at the SINTA 3 level.

JPKA is an open-access journal. Every article is freely available in full text from the moment of publication, without subscription, registration, or payment, on the principle that making research freely available supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

All articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International Licence (CC BY-SA 4.0). Anyone may copy, redistribute, remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercially, provided that appropriate credit is given to the author and the journal, a link to the licence is provided, and any derivative work is distributed under the same licence.

Authors retain the copyright of their work and grant the journal the right of first publication. ⌂ Publisher and Sponsorship

JPKA is published and funded by the Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, which provides the editorial office, the publishing platform, and the technical support for the journal. The journal receives no commercial sponsorship or advertising revenue, and editorial decisions are made independently of the publisher and of any funding body.
