Plagiarism Policy

Jurnal Ilmu Manajemen does not tolerate plagiarism in any form. Every manuscript is screened with similarity-detection software at submission and again before publication.

Similarity thresholds

Measure Limit
Overall similarity index at most 20%
Single source at most 3%
Verbatim text without quotation marks and citation not permitted at any length

The reference list, standard methodological phrasing, and correctly quoted and cited material are excluded when the editor interprets the report. A similarity index is an indicator, not a verdict: the editor reads the report rather than relying on the percentage alone, since a manuscript at 15% may contain a serious unattributed passage while one at 25% may be entirely properly cited.

Forms of plagiarism

Form Description
Verbatim plagiarism Copying text word for word without quotation marks and citation.
Mosaic plagiarism Rewording passages from a source while keeping its structure and ideas, without citation.
Paraphrase plagiarism Restating another's argument in one's own words without crediting the source.
Self-plagiarism Reusing one's own previously published text, data, tables, or figures without citation and disclosure.
Data plagiarism Presenting data gathered by others as one's own.
Image plagiarism Reproducing figures, instruments, or models from another source without permission and credit.
Citation plagiarism Deliberately omitting a source whose influence on the work is substantial.

Procedure

  1. At submission. The editorial team runs a similarity check. A manuscript above the thresholds is returned to the authors before review, with the report attached, or desk rejected where the overlap is extensive.
  2. During review. A reviewer who suspects plagiarism informs the editor confidentially with evidence. The editor verifies it independently.
  3. Explanation. Authors are given 14 days to respond, with evidence.
  4. Decision. Minor, apparently unintentional overlap is corrected before further processing. Substantial plagiarism leads to rejection and a record in the journal's files. Where the conduct appears deliberate, the matter proceeds under the Research Misconduct policy, including notification of the authors' institution.
  5. After publication. Confirmed plagiarism in a published article leads to retraction under the Correction and Retraction policy. The retraction notice states the reason plainly.

Guidance for authors

  • Quote directly only where the exact wording matters, always with quotation marks and a page number.
  • Paraphrase in your own sentence structure, and still cite the source.
  • Cite every source for an idea, a figure, an instrument, or a dataset that is not your own.
  • Where you reuse your own earlier work, cite it and explain in the manuscript what is new here.
  • Obtain written permission for any copyrighted figure, table, or instrument, and record it in the caption.
  • Run your own similarity check before submitting; Turnitin and iThenticate are available through most university libraries.
