PENDIDIKAN MORAL DI MALAYSIA: TANTANGAN DAN IMPLEMENTASI PENDIDIKAN KARAKTER DI SEKOLAH

Abstrak: Bentuk pendidikan karakter di sekolah di Malaysia sudah dilaksanakan sejak sekolah formal dimulai pada jaman penjajahan Inggris. Pertumbuhan ekonomi Malaysia yang pesat membawa perubahan struktur masyarakat dan perilakunya yang membuat pendidikan moral sebagai pelajaran wajib untuk mengantisipasi perubahan sosial dan merupakan implementasi pendidikan karakter di sekolah bagi siswa non-Muslim. Mulai 1980-an diperkenalkan enam belas nilai murni yang harus dipahami siswa dan menjadi tema pokok bagi guru yang diterapkan dalam berbagai pelajaran dan aspek kehidupan. Berbagai tantangan dihadapi siswa dan guru dalam pembelajaran pendidikan karakter ini, mulai metoda pengajaran oleh guru di kelas, pembelajaran oleh siswa yang monoton dan lebih banyak menghapal, serta pola evaluasi yang diterapkan berhubung kompleksitas sistem nilai yang diujikan tidak selalu mudah disepakati bersama.Kata Kunci: pendidikan moral, pendidikan karakter, nilai, pendidikan Malaysia
