Plagiarism Policy

Originality, similarity screening, and how cases are handled

Every manuscript is checked with Turnitin before peer review and again before publication.

TOOLTurnitin LIMIT20% CHECKEDBefore review & publication
01Definitions
Type Meaning
Plagiarism Using others' words, ideas, data, or figures without proper citation
Self-plagiarism (text recycling) Reusing substantial parts of one's own published work without citation
Duplicate or redundant publication Publishing the same study, or substantially the same data and conclusions, more than once
Salami slicing Splitting one study into several papers to increase the number of publications
Translation plagiarism Translating someone else's work, or one's own published work, without citation
02Similarity threshold

A similarity index above 20% (excluding references and quoted material) is treated as suspicious, and the manuscript is rejected. The editor also checks matches from a single source, even when the overall index is low.

03Self-plagiarism levels
Level Extent
Severe Overlap of half or more of a paper
Intermediate Overlap of more than one-tenth but less than half
Minor Overlap confined to the methods section
04Preprints and prior publication

Manuscripts previously posted on a preprint server (for example, a university repository or RINarxiv) may be submitted. Authors must disclose the preprint, with its DOI or link, and update it with the published article's DOI. Work already published in a journal or full conference proceedings is not accepted, nor is a thesis chapter that is not substantially revised.

05Before publication
  • Minor overlap: the author is asked to rewrite and cite properly.
  • Substantial plagiarism or duplicate submission: the manuscript is rejected, and the authors' institution may be informed.
  • Overlap with a manuscript under review elsewhere: treated as severe; the other journal's editor is notified.
06After publication

Plagiarism found after publication is investigated following COPE flowcharts and may lead to a correction or retraction. See Retraction, Withdrawal & Correction.

07Repeat cases

For a second severe case by the same author(s), the editorial board decides the measures, which may include a ban on further submissions.
