A social sciences journal at IKIP Yogyakarta

Informasi was first published in 1970 by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Economics, Institut Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (IKIP) Yogyakarta. It initially published research in the social sciences, especially from the perspective of education. From the mid-1980s to the early 1990s, under an editorial team led by Ahmad Syafii Maarif and Husain Haikal, the journal focused on Indonesia-based social sciences education.

A broader social sciences scope at UNY

When IKIP Yogyakarta became Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) in 1999 (Presidential Decree No. 93 of 1999), Informasi widened its scope to accept research from all disciplines of the social sciences.

A journal of communication and media studies

After a pause in publication in 2014, the journal found a new home in the Department of Communication Studies, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, UNY, and became a scholarly journal of communication and media studies. The new Informasi was published fully online, using Open Journal Systems (OJS), in June 2015. The journal has been published in collaboration with Ikatan Sarjana Komunikasi Indonesia (ISKI), the Indonesian Association of Communication Scholars, since 2018.

★ Accreditation

Informasi received its first national accreditation in 2018 (see the Accreditation History below).

☍ Persistent identifiers

Since 2017, the journal has registered DOIs with Crossref under the prefix 10.21831, including retrospective DOIs for every article from Volume 45 (2015) onwards.

✎ Language and layout

Since Volume 48 No. 2 (2018), all articles have been published in English. Since 2021, articles have used a one-column layout.

The journal is indexed in DOAJ, SINTA, Garuda, Google Scholar, and Dimensions. It was also listed in the ICI Journals Master List (Index Copernicus) from 2017 to 2023, with an Index Copernicus Value (ICV) of 96.53 in 2023.

Published issues are preserved through the LOCKSS system.

In 2026, the journal updated its editorial policies, including its Open Access, Archiving, Copyright and Licensing, and Generative AI policies, in line with Permendiktisaintek No. 9 of 2026 on the Accreditation of Scientific Journals.
