THE CONSTRAINTS OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE 2013 CURRICULUM
Abstract: This study was aimed to describe the constraints of elementary school teachers in the implementation of the 2013 curriculum. This study was descriptive research. The subjects were 65 teachers in Central Java and Yogyakarta under the Kanisius Foundation. The data were collected using questionnaires and interviews. The validity of the data was obtained through the method triangulation. The data were analyzed using the descriptive analysis technique. The findings showed that the constraints in the 2013 curriculum impementation stemmed from the government, institution, teachers, parents, and students. The constraints from the government included the book distribution, assessment, teachers' administration, time allocation, socialisation, thematic teaching implementation, guidance of the curriculum implementation, and learning activities in students' books. The constraints from the institution included the facilities and teacher rotation, both vertically and horizontally. The constraints from the teachers included the development of teaching media, teachers' understanding, the integration of content from different subjects in the thematic teaching, and the IT literacy. The constraints from the parents and students included the report book and the adaption towards the thematic teaching.
