Abstract

The rapid development of technology in music education demands creativity and critical thinking from music educators to create technology-based learning media. One of the technologies as music learning media is Virtual Studio Technology Instruments (VSTi). VSTi is an audio simulation derived from an organology of musical instruments. The use of VSTi in music learning acts as a medium to introduce musical instruments to students through the exploration of sound aesthetics. For music practitioners, VSTi can be used as a tool for creativity in creating music. The limitations of educators and practitioners in mastering musical instruments can be overcome with the use of VSTi. As with improvising using a guitar in keroncong music, these skills are often not possessed by music educators and practitioners. This research focuses on the creation of a keroncong guitar VSTi. The purpose of this research is to describe the stages of making VSTi Keroncong Guitar as a medium for learning music and musical creativity. The method used in the research is Practice Led Research through the pre-production stage as the first step in preparing the recording device and determining the guitar melody used in keroncong music improvisation. Next is the production stage as an act of transforming the audio that has been recorded and then loaded into Kontakt Library to be made in virtual form. Using a practice-oriented method, VSTi was developed and tested in a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), demonstrating its functionality as a learning tool.
