            Pendekatan dan metode pembelajaran geografi atau dipahami oleh para guru agar dapat melaksanakan pembelajaran secara efektif untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran. Dalam pengelolaan pembelajaran, guru perlu mengembangkan metode, media, dan sumber belajar, serta mampu melaksanakan pembelajaran menggunakan pendekatan yang sesuai dengan tujuan dan karakteristik geografi. Pemahaman guru geografi dalam mempelajari hakikat pembelajaran, metode, dan teknik strategi pembelajaran diharapkan dapat membantu guru mempunyai gambaran komprehensif tentang pendekatan pembelajaran yang akan digunakan dan metode pembelajaran yang dipilih. Penguasaan kompetensi tersebut oleh guru, diharapkan kegiatan pembelajaran dapat mencapai hasil yang sesuai dengan yang telah ditetapkan.
