Research Misconduct

Research misconduct means fabrication, falsification, citation manipulation, or plagiarism in planning, carrying out, reviewing, or reporting research. Geo Media: Majalah Ilmiah dan Informasi Kegeografian takes full responsibility for protecting the accuracy and integrity of the scientific record.

In brief: every allegation is checked fairly and confidentially, following COPE standards. A manuscript under review that contains misconduct is rejected. A published article is retracted, with a notice linked to the original work.

How Allegations Are Handled

1

Check the report
The editors verify that the report is valid, that it fits the definition of research misconduct, and that the person reporting has no conflict of interest. Internal investigation by the editors begins.
2

Ask the authors to respond
If there are signs of serious irregularities, the allegation is sent to the corresponding author, who gives an official response on behalf of all co-authors.
3

Evaluate
The editors assess the response and may involve additional experts when needed, such as a statistical or GIS reviewer.
4

Involve the institution
The authors' institution(s) are also expected to investigate. Authors, the journal, and institutions work together to keep scientific knowledge transparent.
5
Decide and act
The editors decide on the outcome below and record it.
