Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

ARTICLE TYPES

Geo Media: Majalah Ilmiah dan Informasi Kegeografian publishes four types of articles: research paper, review paper, short communication, and commentary.

Research Paper
A research paper is an article presenting the results of research on a topic relevant to the focus and scope of Geo Media: Journal of Geography and Geographic Information. A research paper presents an in-depth study of issues in geography, conducted using various approaches. The text of a research paper is approximately 6,000–8,000 words, excluding the abstract, references, tables, and figures. The abstract should be approximately 100–200 words, the maximum number of references is 80, and the number of display items (tables and figures) is limited to 15. Exceptions to these guidelines may be granted upon consultation with the editor-in-chief. A research paper includes the following sections: introduction, methods, results, discussion, conclusions, and references. Authors may also include supplementary information if necessary. The methods and results sections may be divided into subheadings. The methods section covers data collection and analysis, as well as the study area, while the results section includes several subheadings aligned with the research objectives.

Review Paper
A review paper is a review of previous articles. It should present the latest developments in geographical topics, including historical overviews, progress, recent achievements, and potential future developments. The main text of a review paper is approximately 6,000–8,000 words in length, excluding the abstract, references, tables, and figures. The abstract should be no more than 100–200 words, with a maximum of 100 references and 15 display items (tables and figures). Exceptions to these guidelines may be granted upon consultation with the editor-in-chief. A review paper includes an introduction, methods, results, conclusions, and references. Subheadings in the methods section are optional, while those in the results section should align with the research objectives.

Short Communication
A Short Communication is a brief article presenting preliminary findings that are part of a study, current findings, or new scientific results. The ideas presented in a short communication must be of high quality, and the presentation must be relatively concise to ensure rapid publication. A short communication may include discussions of cutting-edge methods as well as innovations and novelties in the development and application of technology, methodology, or materials. The manuscript should be 2,000–3,000 words in length, including references.

Commentary Paper
A commentary paper is an article intended to provide commentary and feedback on previously published articles, perspectives on current scientific issues, controversial topics, and relevant policies. Commentary articles are expected to foster discussion and debate within fields related to the journal's focus and scope. Comments on recent publications may offer challenges or broader perspectives, but must be presented in a respectful and constructive tone. The submission guidelines for commentary papers are similar to those for short communications, with a length of 2,000–3,000 words and approximately 15 references. Authors may also include figures and tables, though this is not required.

THE MANUSCRIPT GENERAL GUIDELINES

The manuscript text general guidelines are as follows:

  1. The manuscript is original and has not been published elsewhere.
  2. The manuscript does not contain any plagiarism elements. The editorial board will directly reject the text that indicates plagiarism.
  3. 3. The manuscript that has been written under the guidelines of Geomedia: Majalah Ilmiah dan Informasi Kegeografian (in MS Word format, use this article template) must be submitted through the Online Submission System using Open Journal System (OJS) on https://journal.uny.ac.id/index.php/geomedia/index, choose only one procedure. Then, register as author.
  4. The online submission manuscript can be viewed under the online submission guidelines.
  5. The manuscript that is inappropriate with the Author Guidelines will be returned to the author before the reviewing process.
  6. The manuscript should contain several aspects of a scientific article as follows: the title of the article, the author's name (no academic title), the affiliated author's address, the author's email, and the main body of the article as described in the template.
  7. The heading and subheading (included in the method and results) shouldn't be numbered. The headings are written in bold, title case format. It uses left-aligned text without an underline. The subheading should be written in bold, italic, and sentence case, and it should use left text alignment. Headings and subheadings are allowed up to three levels.
  8. Geo Media: Majalah Ilmiah dan Informasi Kegeografian accepts only manuscripts in English. The manuscript should consist of ten (10) to twenty (20) pages, including figures and tables. The manuscript text should be written in the format of this article template in camera-ready mode. The article is written on A4-sized paper (210x297 mm), with custom margins 2,5 cm on all sides, as per the template.
  9. The text of the articles uses the Helvetica and Roboto fonts, as specified in the template, with 1.15 line spacing and single-column formatting. Manuscripts must be submitted via OJS in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format, following the template.
  10. The words from uncommon or foreign languages are stated in Italic format. Each paragraph started 10 mm from the left border, with no spaces between paragraphs. All numbers are written in Arabic numbering format, except for the new sentence.
  11. The tables and figures are placed in the text group after the referenced tables or figures. Each figure must be given a caption (Figure Caption) and be numbered in Arabic numerals below the picture, followed by the picture title. Each table must be given a table title (Table Caption) and numbered in Arabic numerals above the table, followed by the table title. The figures attached should be guaranteed to print well (font size, resolution, and line spacing are clearly visible). The figures and the table should be placed in the center between text groups. The table should not contain vertical lines, while horizontal lines are allowed only for important points. Please refer to the template.

THE GUIDELINES FOR THE MANUSCRIPT BODY TEXT

Title. The title of the manuscript should be informative and written briefly and clearly. It cannot have diverse, multi-interpretations. It has to be pinpointed with the issues that will be discussed. The beginning word is written in the capital case and symmetrically. The article title does not contain any uncommon abbreviations. The main ideas should be written first, followed by their explanations. The article title should use sentence case (capitalize the first word of the title), be no more than 15 words, and avoid abbreviations or formulas.

Abstract. An abstract is written in English. The text must be in Roboto 10 pt font, with 1.5 line spacing, approximately 100-200 words, and be followed by five keywords. The abstract must include five main sections, namely: (1) a brief introduction explaining the background of the research, (2) the research objectives, (3) the methods used, which must at least include information on how the data was collected and analyzed, (4) the results, described in a more normative manner and avoiding excessive use of quantitative figures, (5) conclusions.

Introduction. The introduction must contain (shortly and consecutively) a general background, scientific gap, and objectives. The introduction must include the minimum information required for research articles, review articles, short communications, and commentaries, as specified in the respective templates. Authors are requested to refer to the templates.

Methods. The method is implemented to solve problems, including analytic methods. The methods used in the research problem-solving are explained in this part.

Result and Discussion. This section presents the research results and their discussion. The results of the research must be supported by sufficient data. The research results and the discovery must answer the research hypothesis stated in the introduction. The discussion should explore the significance of the work's results, not simply repeat them. Make the discussion align with the results, but do not reiterate them. The discussion section is presented separately from the results, in accordance with the template guidelines. The discussion applies to research papers.

The following components should be covered in the discussion: How do your results relate to the original question or objectives outlined in the Introduction section (what/how)? Do you provide an interpretation scientifically for each of your results or findings presented (why)? Are your results consistent with what other investigators have reported (what else)? Or are there any differences?

Conclusion. This is the final part containing conclusions and recommendations. The conclusions will answer the hypothesis, address the research purposes, and present the research discoveries. The conclusions should not contain only the repetition of the results and discussions. It should summarize the research results, as the author expects, in line with the research purposes or the hypothesis. The advice includes suggestions for further ideas from the research. In the conclusion section, the author is also expected to evaluate the manuscript's limitations and provide recommendations for future authors based on that evaluation.

References. All the references used in the article must be listed in this part. In this part, all references must be from primary sources (scientific journals) and must be published in the last 10 years, with at least 80% of the references from these sources. Each article should have at least ten references.

THE GUIDELINES FOR THE CITATIONS AND REFERENCES

All data or quotes used in the article, taken from other authors' articles, should be cited with the sources. The references should use a reference application management system such as Mendeley. The writing format used in Geo Media: Majalah Informasi dan Kegeografian follows the APA 7th Edition (American Psychological Association) guidelines.

THE ONLINE SUBMISSION MANUSCRIPT GUIDELINES

The manuscript text must be submitted by one of two systems (the second procedure is more preferable):

The document should be submitted by Online Submission System in the Geomedia: Majalah Ilmiah dan Informasi Kegeografian HERE.

  1. Firstly, the author should register as an author in the "Register.
  2. After the registration step is completed, log in as an author, then click on "New Submission". The article submission stage consists of five stages, such as: (1). Start, (2). Upload Submission, (3). Enter Metadata, (4). Upload Supplementary Files, (5). Confirmation.
  3. In the "Start" column, chose Journal Section (Full Article), check all the checklists.
  4. In the "Upload Submission" Columns, upload the manuscript files in MSWord format.
  5. In the "Enter Metadata" columns, fill in with all the author data and affiliation. Including the Journal Title, Abstract and Indexing Keywords.
  6. In the "Upload Supplementary Files" columns, the author is allowed to upload supplementary files, the statement letter, or any other else.
  7. In the "Confirmation" columns, if the data you entered is all correct already, then click "Finish Submission".
