Authorship Criteria

Authorship Criteria & Contribution Guidelines

Jurnal Pendidikan Anak (JPA) | PGPAUD Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta

Jurnal Pendidikan Anak (JPA) adheres to strict authorship ethics to ensure scholarly integrity, transparency, and accountability in Early Childhood Education (PAUD) research publications. Our authorship criteria are developed in compliance with the guidelines set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

1. Essential Criteria for Authorship

To be designated as an author of an article submitted to Jurnal Pendidikan Anak, an individual must fulfill all four (4) of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial Contributions: Significant intellectual input to the conception, design of the study, acquisition of empirical data (fieldwork/observation in early childhood settings), or analysis and interpretation of data.
  2. Drafting or Revising: Active involvement in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for crucial intellectual content.
  3. Final Approval: Reviewing and granting explicit approval of the final version of the manuscript prior to publication.
  4. Accountability: Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the paper are appropriately investigated and resolved.

2. Author Roles and Responsibilities

Corresponding Author

The corresponding author takes primary responsibility for communication with the journal during manuscript submission, peer review, and the publication process. They must ensure that all administrative requirements (submitting institutional email, ORCID iD, ethics approval, and copyright consent) are properly met and that all co-authors are kept informed.

Co-Authors

All listed co-authors must have made significant contributions meeting the 4 authorship criteria above. Authors must specify individual contributions (e.g., conceptualization, methodology, data curation, formal analysis, writing - original draft, writing - review & editing) using the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) framework in the manuscript.

3. Non-Author Contributions (Acknowledgements)

Contributors who do not meet all four criteria for authorship should not be listed as authors. Instead, their contributions must be acknowledged in the "Acknowledgements" section. Examples include: general supervision of the research group/kindergarten, administrative or technical assistance, language proofreading, or basic classroom observation assistance without analytical contribution. Written permission to be named in the acknowledgements must be obtained by the authors.

4. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

Jurnal Pendidikan Anak strictly prohibits the following authorship malpractices:

  • Ghost Authorship: Excluding individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the paper.
  • Guest / Gift Authorship: Awarding authorship to individuals who have not contributed significantly to the research (e.g., due to seniority, departmental hierarchy, or personal affiliation).
  • Authorship for Sale: Any unauthorized inclusion or commercial transaction of author names.
  • AI Authorship: Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, Large Language Models (LLMs), or chatbots (e.g., ChatGPT) cannot be credited as authors, as they cannot assume legal accountability or give final consent. Use of AI must be transparently disclosed in the methodology or acknowledgements.

5. Changes in Authorship

Any addition, deletion, or rearrangement of author names in the authorship list will only be considered before the manuscript is accepted and strictly with the approval of the Journal Editor. To request such a change, the corresponding author must provide: (a) the reason for the change, and (b) written confirmation (via official email or signed statement) from all authors agreeing to the modification. No authorship changes are permitted after online publication.
