Abstract

The high mortality rate of cardiac arrest is of great concern to health workers for emergency services in health facilities. Basic Life Support (BLS) is an emergency management effort that aims to save someone when they are in a life-threatening condition. Nursing students as prospective medical health workers must be able to know the knowledge about Basic Life Support in order to be able to provide BLS as a form of first aid in emergencies in the community. If Nursing Students have good knowledge of BLS, nursing students can be better prepared in all emergency conditions. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of basic knowledge about BLS for nursing students at Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta and an increase in knowledge about BLS after being given BLS material. This research method uses a quantitative research type with an analytic observational approach and a cross-sectional research design. This study used primary data by distributing pretest and posttest questionnaires. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires to 100 students including the Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta. Data were processed using IBM SPSS Software Version 26. The results showed that the majority of respondents 88 students (88%) had pretest scores > 80 and 100 students (100%) got posttest scores of 100 with a p-value between pre-test and posttest < 0.05. the results of this study can be interpreted that there is an increase in BLS knowledge in nursing students at Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta.
