Shibori batik is a type of batik produced using folding and tying techniques that create a variety of colors and patterns. The Shibori batik training program is one of the efforts to improve the skills of PKK women in Wirobrajan, Yogyakarta. This activity aims to provide new knowledge and skills to PKK members, particularly in batik crafts using the Shibori technique, which is a traditional Japanese fabric-dyeing method. The training is expected to empower participants so they can utilize these skills to help increase family income.
The methods used in this training include both theory and hands-on practice, such as lectures, demonstrations, practice sessions, and mentoring. The training materials cover the theory of Shibori, types of Shibori, introduction to tools and materials, motif-making techniques, the coloring and drying processes, and product creation using Shibori techniques. The results of this training show an improvement in skills and enthusiasm among PKK women in producing creative and marketable Shibori batik products. The participants showed great enthusiasm, demonstrated through their eagerness to learn, consistent attendance, and dedication during each step of the Shibori-making process, resulting in good-quality fabric products.
In addition, this training program opens new business opportunities that can support the local economy. In conclusion, Shibori batik training can serve as an effective solution to enhance the skills and economic independence of PKK women in Wirobrajan, Yogyakarta.
