Corrections, Retractions, and Scholarly Integrity
Procedures for issuing Errata, Corrigenda, Expressions of Concern, and Article Retractions.
Preserving the Version of Record
SOCIA: Jurnal Ilmu-Ilmu Sosial follows the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to ensure that the Version of Record (VoR) remains accurate and reliable. Published articles form a permanent part of the scientific literature and should not be modified without a transparent public record of the change.
When errors or ethical breaches occur, SOCIA issues official notices (Errata, Corrigenda, Expressions of Concern, or Retractions) to inform readers while maintaining a complete audit trail.
Summary of correction mechanisms
| Action | Cause | Effect on Article Status |
|---|---|---|
| ERRATUM | Significant error introduced by the journal during production or layout. | Article remains valid; separate Erratum notice cross-linked. |
| CORRIGENDUM | Significant honest error made by the author(s) without invalidating conclusions. | Article remains valid; separate Corrigendum notice cross-linked. |
| EXPRESSION OF CONCERN | Pending investigation of serious allegations with inconclusive initial evidence. | Warning notice attached to the article landing page pending resolution. |
| RETRACTION | Fatal flaws, data fabrication, severe plagiarism, or duplicate publication. | Article marked "RETRACTED" on PDF/web; findings declared invalid. |
Errata and Corrigenda procedures
Corrections are published when an error affects scientific facts, author attribution, data representation, or interpretation, but does not invalidate the article’s overall findings.
- — Independent Publication: A separate correction document is published in the next available issue with its own DOI.
- — Bi-Directional Linking: The correction notice links to the original article, and the original article links back to the correction notice.
- — Minor Errors: Minor typos, formatting, or spelling errors that do not impact readability or scientific meaning are not eligible for formal correction notices.
Expressions of Concern
The Editor-in-Chief may issue an Expression of Concern if:
- — There is well-founded evidence of research or publication misconduct, but an official institutional investigation is ongoing or inconclusive.
- — An investigation is delayed excessively, leaving readers uninformed about potential data unreliability.
Once the investigation completes, the Expression of Concern will be replaced by either a formal Retraction, a Correction, or an exoneration announcement.
Article retraction guidelines
Retraction is reserved for severely flawed articles whose findings can no longer be trusted. In accordance with COPE Retraction Guidelines, an article will be retracted if:
- — Findings are unreliable due to data fabrication, falsification, calculation errors, or experimental bias.
- — The article contains severe plagiarism, text recycling, or unauthorized translation.
- — The manuscript was published elsewhere without proper disclosure (duplicate publication).
- — Unethical research practices or undisclosed major conflicts of interest are proven.
How Retractions are Executed:
- 1. A formal "Retraction Notice" is published in the online issue and assigned a unique DOI.
- 2. The original PDF is retained on the website to preserve the digital archive, but marked with a clear "RETRACTED" watermark on every page.
- 3. The article landing page is updated to state the reason for retraction and identify who requested it.
Article removal and replacement
Article Removal: Complete removal of a published article from the online platform occurs only in rare and extreme legal circumstances, such as:
- — Clear legal injunctions regarding defamation or court orders.
- — Severe violations of personal privacy, human rights, or safety.
In such cases, article metadata (title and authors) is retained alongside a tombstone statement explaining the removal.

Authors who discover errors in their published work, or readers who suspect error or misconduct, should contact the Editorial Office immediately:
