Post-publication discussions, corrections, and retractions.
Maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and permanence of the scholarly record.
Integrity of the published record
SOCIA: Jurnal Ilmu-Ilmu Sosial is committed to maintaining the permanence and integrity of the Version of Record (VoR). Once an article is officially published online, it forms a permanent part of the scientific literature.
Changes to published articles are made only under exceptional circumstances to correct significant errors, address ethical breaches, or provide transparent academic commentary, adhering strictly to Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines.
Post-publication discussion
SOCIA encourages constructive scientific debate and post-publication peer review from the academic community. Readers may submit formal commentary or critique regarding any published article:
- —
Letters to the Editor: Readers may submit concise, evidence-based commentary or methodological critique within 12 months of an article's publication date.
- —
Author Response: The original authors are invited to submit a formal reply, which is evaluated alongside the critique by an independent editor.
- —
Publication of Commentary: If accepted, the commentary and author reply are published together in an upcoming issue and cross-linked to the original article.
Types of post-publication amendments
| Notice Type | Trigger / Condition | Editorial Action |
|---|---|---|
| ERRATUM | Significant error introduced by the publisher/journal during layout, editing, or production. | Publish a separate Erratum notice bi-directionally linked to the original PDF and webpage. |
| CORRIGENDUM | Significant honest error made by the author(s) (e.g., mislabeled table, missing grant number) that does not invalidate conclusions. | Publish a formal Corrigendum statement detailing the exact changes made to the record. |
| EXPRESSION OF CONCERN | Well-founded allegations of misconduct or data unreliability under active, unresolved investigation. | Publish an official warning notice attached to the article landing page pending final outcome. |
| RETRACTION | Unreliable findings due to fatal error, data fabrication, heavy plagiarism, or severe ethical violations. | Publish a formal Retraction Notice; apply a "RETRACTED" watermark to the original PDF without removing the file. |
Retraction guidelines and procedure
Retractions are conducted in accordance with COPE Retraction Guidelines. An article will be retracted if:
- — There is clear evidence that findings are unreliable due to major error or fabrication/falsification.
- — The findings have previously been published elsewhere without proper cross-referencing or justification.
- — The manuscript constitutes plagiarism or unethical research.
Retraction Notice Standard:
The retraction notice is published in the next available issue, indexed in major databases, linked to the original article, and explicitly states who is retracting the article along with the objective reasons for retraction.
Article removal, replacement, and versioning
- —
Article Removal: Removal of an article from online platforms occurs only in extraordinary legal situations (e.g., court order, severe defamation, or severe violation of personal privacy/safety). A tombstone notice remains on the landing page.
- —
Article Replacement: In rare cases where a flawed article poses serious societal or legal harm, authors may retract and replace it with a corrected version subjected to full peer review, accompanied by a transparent history.
- —
OJS Versioning History: SOCIA maintains complete version control within OJS 3. All post-publication changes are timestamped and logged transparently.
