Peer Review Process
All research articles and review articles submitted to Jurnal Keolahragaan undergo double-blind peer review. The identities of authors and reviewers are not disclosed to each other.
1. Initial screening (within 7 days)
The editor checks whether the manuscript fits the aims and scope, follows the journal template and author guidelines, and passes a similarity check with Turnitin. Manuscripts that fall outside the scope or exceed the similarity limit in our Plagiarism Policy are returned without review.
2. Peer review (3 to 4 weeks)
Each manuscript that passes screening is assigned to at least two independent reviewers with expertise in the subject. Reviewers must not come from the same institution as any of the authors and must declare any conflict of interest. Reviewers assess originality, methodological soundness, ethical compliance, clarity, and the contribution to sport and exercise science.
3. Editorial decision
The handling editor makes a decision based on the reviewer reports: accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject. When the reports disagree, the editor may invite an additional reviewer.
4. Revision
Authors are asked to return minor revisions within 2 weeks and major revisions within 4 weeks, with a point-by-point response to the reviewers. Major revisions are usually sent back to the original reviewers.
5. Final decision and production
The Editor-in-Chief confirms the final decision. Accepted articles then go through copyediting, layout, and proofreading by the authors before publication.
Target timeline
We aim to give a first decision within 8 weeks of submission.
Manuscripts from editors
Manuscripts submitted by the Editor-in-Chief or other members of the editorial team are handled by an editor who has no conflict of interest with the authors. The submitting editor has no access to the review process of their own manuscript.
Appeals
Authors may appeal a rejection by writing to the editorial office with a clear justification. Appeals are assessed by an editor who was not involved in the original decision.
Research integrity
Our research integrity team will occasionally seek advice outside standard peer review, for example on submissions with serious ethical, security, biosecurity, or societal implications. We may consult experts and the academic editor before deciding on appropriate actions, including recruiting reviewers with specific expertise, assessment by additional editors, and declining further consideration of a submission.
