Publication Ethics
Jurnal Keolahragaan is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). This commitment ensures the integrity of our published content and maintains the trust of our readers, authors, and the wider academic community.
Editorial Responsibilities
Editors of Jurnal Keolahragaan are entrusted with the responsibility of making publication decisions based on the academic merit, originality, and relevance of submitted manuscripts. These decisions are made in collaboration with reviewers, whose feedback is carefully considered, while ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards, such as those concerning defamation, copyright violations, and plagiarism. Editorial decisions are made objectively and are not influenced by the author’s nationality, ethnicity, political views, race, or religion.
Maintaining confidentiality is the editor's primary responsibility during the review process. Information related to a manuscript is shared only with the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, and other editorial advisers as appropriate. Editors must not use unpublished materials from a submitted manuscript for their own research without the express written consent of the author. In addition, starting in 2025, editors will ensure transparency by disclosing the funding sources behind the research and clarifying any role that the funder may have played in the study or its publication.
Editors are committed to fostering a fair, unbiased, and timely peer-review process. They uphold impartiality by enforcing policies that manage submissions from editorial board members appropriately. Clear guidelines for authorship are provided to ensure transparency regarding who qualifies as an author. Editors also work to maintain constructive relationships with reviewers by encouraging them to address ethical concerns such as plagiarism, redundant publication, or unethical research practices. Reviewer feedback is shared in full with authors unless it contains offensive or defamatory content. Reviewers who consistently provide low-quality, discourteous, or delayed reviews may be removed from the journal’s reviewer pool.
To ensure quality assurance in published material, editors take reasonable steps to verify that research has been approved by an appropriate ethics committee or institutional review board when applicable. They remain vigilant about intellectual property issues and cooperate with publishers to resolve any legal or procedural disputes. If errors, inaccuracies, or misleading information are identified in published articles, editors act promptly and transparently to issue corrections or retractions as needed. Through these responsibilities, editors uphold the integrity and quality of Jurnal Keolahragaan.
Reviewer Responsibilities
Reviewers play a vital role in assisting editors with publication decisions and helping authors improve their manuscripts through constructive feedback. They should promptly inform the editor if they feel unqualified to review a manuscript or cannot complete the review on time.
Manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential and not shared or discussed with others without explicit authorization from the editor. Reviews should be conducted objectively, avoiding personal criticism of the author, and supported with clear, well-reasoned arguments.
Reviewers are responsible for identifying uncited relevant work and notifying the editor of any substantial overlap or similarity between the manuscript and other published works. They must also disclose any conflicts of interest that could compromise their impartiality and ensure that privileged information obtained through peer review is kept confidential and not used for personal advantage.
Ethical Guidelines for Authors
Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy, originality, and ethical integrity of their submissions. Research findings must be presented accurately, with sufficient detail and references to allow replication. Authors must retain and provide raw data upon request and ensure compliance with ethical standards for studies involving humans, animals, or plants. All work must be original, with proper citations for others’ contributions to avoid plagiarism.
Manuscripts should not be submitted to multiple journals simultaneously, and redundant publications are prohibited. Authorship is limited to individuals who have significantly contributed to the study, and all co-authors must approve the final manuscript. Any hazards related to chemicals, procedures, or equipment used in the study must be clearly disclosed. Authors are also required to disclose any financial or personal conflicts of interest that could influence the research.
In cases of errors in published work, authors must promptly notify the journal and cooperate in issuing corrections or retractions that will be handled in accordance with COPE retraction guidelines. Manuscripts undergo plagiarism checks, and those with unacceptable similarity indices are rejected. Withdrawal of manuscripts is discouraged unless justified and approved by the editorial board.
Additional Information on Publication Ethics
- Plagiarism Policies: Plagiarism in any form, including self-plagiarism or duplicate submissions, is strictly prohibited. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism will be rejected or retracted.
- Corrections and Retractions: Errors in published articles are corrected transparently through errata or corrigenda, while serious issues may lead to retractions following COPE guidelines.
- Ethics Approval: Research involving humans, animals, or plants requires ethics approval from relevant committees, adherence to international guidelines (e.g., Declaration of Helsinki), and proper consent documentation.
- Conflict of Interest: Authors should disclose any potential conflicts of interest relevant to their manuscript. If no conflicts of interest exist, a statement stating this must be included. From 2025, this will be mandatory and must be stated.
Allegations of Misconduct
Jurnal Keolahragaan upholds strict ethical standards and takes allegations of misconduct seriously. Misconduct includes plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, duplicate submissions, citation manipulation, authorship disputes, and biased peer review practices.
- Plagiarism: This includes copying text, ideas, images, or data from other sources without proper attribution or reusing previously published content without permission. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism during peer review will be rejected, and published articles may be retracted or corrected.
- Data Fabrication and Falsification: The creation or manipulation of research data to mislead readers is considered unethical. This includes altering images or removing outliers to achieve desired results. Such practices will result in rejection or retraction of the manuscript.
- Duplicate Submissions: Authors must ensure that their manuscript is not under consideration elsewhere. Duplicate submissions are treated as intentional misconduct and will lead to rejection or other actions. For translated works or secondary submissions, prior approval from the original publisher must be obtained and disclosed.
- Authorship Issues: Authorship must be limited to those who have made significant contributions to the study. Disputes regarding authorship will be addressed transparently by the journal.
- Citation Manipulation: Excessive citations added solely to boost citation counts or promote specific journals are considered unethical and will be investigated.
- Peer Review Manipulation: The journal carefully selects reviewers to avoid conflicts of interest and follows COPE guidelines to ensure an unbiased peer-review process.
If misconduct is suspected, the editorial board will investigate following COPE guidelines. Proven cases may result in rejection, retraction, corrections, or bans on future submissions.
Errata and Corrigenda
To maintain the accuracy and integrity of the scientific record, Jurnal Keolahragaan addresses post-publication errors transparently through errata and corrigenda.
- Erratum: Issued to correct errors introduced by the publisher during the production process (e.g., typographical mistakes). These errors are flagged during proofing and corrected before publication whenever possible.
- Corrigendum: Issued when authors request corrections after publication due to significant inaccuracies or omissions in their work. The editorial team evaluates the significance of the requested changes and determines whether a corrigendum is necessary.
Both errata and corrigenda are linked to the original article with clear explanations of what has been corrected. If the errors significantly affect the validity of the research findings, a retraction may be issued instead, following COPE guidelines. Authors requesting changes to accepted articles must submit them as new manuscripts for evaluation if they involve substantial additions or modifications.
Author Rights
Authors who publish with Jurnal Keolahragaan retain the copyright to their work, ensuring they maintain ownership of their intellectual property. Alongside retaining copyright, authors are granted scholarly usage rights, allowing them to use, share, and distribute their published work for academic and non-commercial purposes, such as inclusion in institutional repositories, personal websites, or academic presentations, provided proper attribution is given to the original publication in the journal.
By submitting a manuscript to Jurnal Keolahragaan, authors grant the publisher the rights to publish and distribute their work in all formats (print and digital) and across various platforms. This includes granting the publisher a non-exclusive license to archive, reproduce, and disseminate the article for the purpose of ensuring broad accessibility and visibility within the academic community. The publisher is also responsible for managing the article’s indexing and citation in relevant databases.
