Author Guidelines

Jurnal Penelitian Humaniora publishes original research articles on non-educational issues in the humanities, including culture, language, arts, and the social sciences. These guidelines take you through the three stages of publishing with us: before submission, submission, and after submission. Please read them together with the Humaniora manuscript template, which contains guidance boxes and placeholders for every section. Manuscripts that do not follow the template will be returned without review.

Quick checklist. English (British spelling) or Indonesian · 5,000–8,000 words or 15–20 pages · title ≤ 12 words in Indonesian and English · abstracts 150–170 words in Indonesian and English · three keywords · no bullet points, numbering, or subheadings · APA 7th edition with page numbers in citations · similarity ≤ 20% · double-blind review · APC IDR 500,000 (USD 35) only after acceptance.

Part A. Before Submission

1. Check the scope

The journal publishes research on culture, language, arts, and the social sciences. Research whose main focus is education or teaching is outside the scope and should be submitted to an education journal.

2. Use the template correctly

  • Text in blue boxes is guidance: follow it and delete every box before submission. Text highlighted in yellow and enclosed in [square brackets] is a placeholder: replace it and remove the highlight.
  • Use the built-in styles (Title, Identification, Institution, Email, IsiAbstrak, Katakunci, Heading 1, Body Text, Daftar Pustaka). A4 paper, 2.5 cm margins on every side, Times New Roman 12 pt.
  • Write all content as continuous prose. Bullet points, numbered lists, and subheadings are not permitted.
  • Complete the pre-submission checklist at the end of the template, then delete it.

3. Language

  • Write in clear academic English using British spelling consistently (e.g., organise, analyse, colour, programme), or in correct academic Indonesian.
  • The title, abstract, and keywords must be given in both Indonesian and English. Authors who do not write Indonesian may ask the editorial office for help with the Indonesian version.

4. Manuscript structure

Section What to include
Title Indonesian and English versions, each no more than 12 words, without naming the research location. TNR 14 pt bold (Indonesian) and 12 pt bold (English), capital letters.
Authors Full names without academic titles; the affiliation of every author; the corresponding author’s email (marked *).
Abstract Indonesian and English, each 150–170 words in one paragraph, in the past tense, summarising only the aim, method, and results. No background; avoid statistical results.
Keywords Three words or phrases reflecting the essence of the problem scope, in italics.
INTRODUCTION The background to the problem, a review of the literature and relevant previous studies, and the research aim, written as prose without subheadings.
METHOD The type of research, time and place, target and subjects, procedure, instruments, data collection, and data analysis, written as prose.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Results in figures, tables, or description, analysed and interpreted; a discussion relating them to the research problem, theory, and previous studies.
CONCLUSION The meaning of the findings, not a repetition of the data, and prospects for further research and application.
Closing statements Acknowledgements, Author Contributions, Funding, Conflict of Interest, Data Availability, and Declaration of Generative AI Use.

5. Figures and tables

  • Centre figures and tables. Place the number and title above, aligned left, capitalising each word except conjunctions.
  • Figures and graphs must be editable and at least 300 dpi.
  • Tables follow APA 7th edition: number in bold, title in italics on the next line, horizontal lines only (no vertical lines).

6. Citations and references

  • Follow APA 7th edition. Every citation must include the page number, e.g., (Isnanto, 2017, p. 25) or (Skaggs & Bodenhorn, 2006, pp. 82–83).
  • Direct quotations of 40 words or more are set as an indented, single-spaced block without quotation marks, followed by the page number.
  • Use primary sources (journal articles and research reports) published within the last 10 years. List only sources cited in the text, and cite every source in the list. Give DOIs as https://doi.org/… where available.
  • Use a reference manager such as Mendeley or Zotero.

7. Prepare files for double-blind review

  1. Anonymised manuscript: remove author names, affiliations, emails, acknowledgements, author contributions, and funding details; cite your own work in the third person; remove personal data from the file properties.
  2. Title page: the title, all authors with affiliations, emails, ORCID iDs, and contact numbers, and the closing statements.

8. Originality and ethics

  • The manuscript must be original, unpublished, and not under review elsewhere. Every manuscript is checked with Turnitin; a similarity above 20% leads to rejection (see the Plagiarism Policy).
  • Research involving people requires informed consent and, where applicable, ethical approval.
  • All authors must meet the authorship criteria and approve the submission.

Part B. Submission

  1. Register as an Author at journal.uny.ac.id/index.php/humaniora, or log in.
  2. Start: confirm the submission checklist and add comments for the editor if needed.
  3. Upload the anonymised manuscript (.doc/.docx) and the title page as a separate file.
  4. Metadata: enter the title, abstract, and keywords exactly as in the manuscript, and add all co-authors with affiliations, emails, and ORCID iDs.
  5. Finish the submission; you will receive an acknowledgement email.

Part C. After Submission

Stage What happens
1. Initial screening Scope, template compliance, anonymisation, and Turnitin similarity check.
2. Double-blind review Experts in the field review the manuscript; neither authors nor reviewers know each other’s identity.
3. Decision Accepted without revision, accepted with revision, or rejected.
4. Revision Revise according to every comment and return the revised manuscript with a point-by-point response.
5. Payment and production After acceptance, pay the APC; the article is copyedited and laid out, and authors check the proof.
6. Publication Online publication in the April or October issue.
