Enhancing learning achievement through the team game tournament method in food and beverage service instruction

This study aims to determine and describe: 1) the learning process in the implementation of the Team Game Tournament method in culinary arts subjects at SMK Negeri 1 Kalasan; and 2) the improvement of student learning outcomes in culinary arts subjects through the Team Game Tournament method at SMK Negeri 1 Kalasan. The type of research is Classroom Action Research with quantitative methods. The study population was all students of class XI Culinary class of 2023/2024 SMK Negeri 1 Kalasan totaling 67 students. The sampling technique used cluster sampling, with 34 students in class XI Culinary B. Data collection techniques with observation, questionnaires and tests. Prerequisite testing of analysis includes normality test and non-parametric test, while hypothesis testing uses t-test followed by calculation of effect size (d). The results showed that 1) the implementation of the Team Game Tournament learning method had two cycles. Cycle I learning uses conventional methods and cycle II uses the Team Game Tournament method. Based on the observation results, there was an increase in learning by 25% after cycle II was implemented; 2) the increase in learning outcomes showed a significant difference in the implementation of the Team Game Tournament learning method. The significant difference in learning outcomes is indicated by the significance value (P) <0.05 so that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. The results of the calculation of the effect size in improving student learning outcomes obtained the result d = 1.64, which based on the effect size criteria according to Cohen, the value d = 1.64 is included in the large effect category.
