History Of Journal
Jurnal Ilmiah WUNY was originally established as Majalah WUNY, a periodical publication issued by Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY). The journal's earliest archived issues date back to 2013, when it was published as Majalah WUNY Volume XV, with three issues per year (January/February, May/June, and September). During this phase, the publication operated primarily as a print periodical under the Print ISSN 0126-3854, covering a broad range of scholarly topics relevant to education, technology, health, and culture in Indonesia.
From 2013 through 2018, Majalah WUNY was consistently published three times annually, covering Volumes XV through XX. This period reflects the journal's foundational role as an institutional academic venue for UNY scholars and contributors from the broader Indonesian academic community.
In 2019, the journal underwent a significant transformation. Majalah WUNY was formally redesigned and relaunched as Jurnal Ilmiah WUNY, transitioning from a general-interest academic magazine to a peer-reviewed scientific journal published on an Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform at https://journal.uny.ac.id/index.php/wuny. The publication frequency was restructured to two issues per year (March and September), and the journal began assigning Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to all articles via Crossref under the prefix 10.21831. An Online ISSN (2747-0547) was subsequently registered to reflect the journal's open-access digital presence.
Between 2019 and 2021 (Volumes 1–3), the journal published multidisciplinary content spanning education, technology, health, and culture, attracting contributions from scholars across Indonesian institutions. Following internal editorial review and a strategic realignment to address emerging fields of national significance, the editorial board refined the journal's focus and scope.
From 2022 onward (Volume 4), Jurnal Ilmiah WUNY has concentrated exclusively on Digital Pedagogy & Cultural Preservation, positioning itself at the intersection of educational technology and Indonesian cultural heritage. The journal engages both theoretical and empirical research, including studies on digital platforms for traditional cultural learning, gamification approaches for regional language preservation, virtual reality applications in local history education, social media as cultural education tools, and the integration of modern pedagogical technologies with indigenous knowledge systems. This focused scope reflects UNY's institutional commitment to bridging digital innovation and the preservation of Indonesia's diverse cultural landscape.
The journal is currently indexed in SINTA (Science and Technology Index, Ministry of Education and Culture, Republic of Indonesia), Google Scholar, and Garuda (Garba Rujukan Digital, Kemdikbud). All articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) license, ensuring full open access. The journal is managed and published by Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Jl. Colombo No. 1, Yogyakarta 55281, Indonesia
