Journal Policy

JPPM (Jurnal Pendidikan dan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal committed to advancing research, theory, policy, and practice in nonformal education, informal education, lifelong learning, and community empowerment.

The journal promotes academic integrity, editorial independence, transparency, inclusivity, and responsible scholarly communication.

Its editorial policies are informed by the principles and guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.

Policies

01Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently and are based exclusively on scholarly merit, originality, methodological rigor, relevance to the journal's scope, and compliance with publication ethics.

Decisions must not be influenced by authors' institutional affiliations, academic positions, nationality, personal relationships, or financial interests.

The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board are responsible for ensuring the fairness, consistency, and integrity of editorial decisions.

02Peer Review Policy

JPPM applies a double-anonymous peer review process in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from one another.

Submitted manuscripts undergo preliminary editorial screening to assess their relevance, originality, methodological quality, and compliance with submission requirements.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to qualified reviewers with appropriate subject expertise.

Reviewers are expected to provide constructive, objective, evidence-based evaluations while maintaining confidentiality and disclosing potential conflicts of interest.

The final publication decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief or an authorized handling editor.

JPPM aims to provide a final editorial decision within four months of submission. This timeline is a target and may vary depending on the complexity of the manuscript, reviewer availability, and revision requirements.

03Publication Ethics

JPPM is committed to preventing and addressing publication misconduct, including plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, citation manipulation, and undisclosed conflicts of interest.

All allegations of misconduct will be assessed fairly, confidentially, and in accordance with relevant COPE guidance.

04Research Ethics

Research involving human participants must respect the principles of informed consent, voluntary participation, privacy, confidentiality, and protection from harm.

Authors must report approval from an appropriate ethics committee when required by applicable institutional or national regulations.

Where formal ethical approval is not required, authors should explain the ethical safeguards implemented during the research.

Particular attention must be given to research involving children, families, vulnerable populations, and community participants.

05Confidentiality

Editors, reviewers, and editorial staff must treat submitted manuscripts and related correspondence as confidential information.

Unpublished research materials, data, or ideas obtained during editorial assessment must not be disclosed or used for personal advantage without authorization.

06Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern

JPPM is committed to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.

When significant errors or concerns are identified after publication, the journal may issue corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions, depending on the nature and severity of the issue.

Such actions will follow established publication ethics procedures and preserve a transparent record of editorial decisions.

07Open Access Policy

JPPM provides open access to its published scholarly content to support the dissemination, accessibility, and exchange of educational knowledge.

Readers may access published articles without subscription barriers, subject to the copyright and licensing conditions applicable to each article.

08Appeals and Complaints

Authors may submit reasoned appeals against editorial decisions or complaints concerning editorial procedures.

Appeals should provide specific evidence of procedural errors, factual misunderstandings, or concerns regarding fairness.

Appeals and complaints will be reviewed by an editor who has no relevant conflict of interest, where practicable. An appeal does not automatically result in reconsideration or acceptance of a manuscript.

09Policy Review

The Editorial Board periodically reviews and updates the journal's policies to reflect developments in scholarly publishing, research ethics, and international editorial standards.

Substantive policy changes should be communicated transparently through the journal's official website.
