Publication Ethics

Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against any publication malpractices. The Editorial Board is responsible for, among others, preventing publication malpractice. Unethical behavior is unacceptable, and this journal does not tolerate plagiarism in any form. Authors who submitted articles agree that the manuscript contents are original,  the manuscript has not been published previously in any language, either wholly or partly, and is not currently submitted for publication elsewhere.

DECLARATION OF ETHICS AND GOOD PRACTICES OF JURNAL PENDIDIKAN MATEMATIKA DAN SAINS (JPMS)

Editors, authors, and reviewers, within the Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS), are to be fully committed to good publication practice and accept the responsibility for fulfilling the following duties and responsibilities, as set by the COPE Code of Conduct for Journal Editors. As part of the Core Practices, COPE has written guidelines on this link (https://publicationethics.org/files/u7140/Peer%20review%20guidelines.pdf)

Section A: Publication and authorship

  1. All submitted papers are subject to a strict peer-review process by at least two international reviewers that are experts in the area of the particular paper.
  2. The review process is a blind peer review.
  3. The factors that are taken into account in the review are relevance, soundness, significance, originality, readability, and language.
  4. The possible decisions include acceptance, acceptance with revisions, or rejection.
  5. If authors are encouraged to revise and resubmit a submission, there is no guarantee that the revised submission will be accepted.
  6. Rejected articles will not be re-reviewed.
  7. The paper acceptance is constrained by such legal requirements as shall then be in force regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.
  8. No research can be included in more than one publication.

Section B: Authors’ responsibilities

The author is the only one who has made substantial intellectual contributions to the manuscript. Collaborations like technical services, translation, preparation of patients for the study, supplying materials, funding, or facility administrative oversight where the work was done are not, in themselves, sufficient for authorship; however, these contributions may be acknowledged in the manuscript. One author (a “guarantor”) should take responsibility for the integrity of the work as a whole. It is often the corresponding author who submits the manuscript and receives reviews although other authors can play this role. All authors should approve the final version of the manuscript. It is preferable that all authors be familiar with all aspects of the work. However, modern research is often done in teams with complementary expertise so every author may not be equally familiar with all aspects of the work. Therefore, some authors’ contributions may be limited to specific aspects of the work as a whole.

  1. Authors must certify that their manuscripts are their original work.
  2. Authors must certify that the manuscript has not previously been published elsewhere.
  3. Authors must certify that the manuscript is not currently being considered for publication elsewhere.
  4. The authors must participate in the peer-review process.
  5. Authors are obliged to provide retractions or corrections of mistakes.
  6. All Authors mentioned in the paper must have significantly contributed to the research.
  7. The authors must state that all data in the paper are real and authentic.
  8. The authors must notify the Editors of any conflicts of interest.
  9. The authors must identify all sources used in the creation of their manuscripts.
  10. Authors must report any errors they discover in their published papers to the Editors.

Section C: Reviewers’ responsibilities

The Reviewers will receive a rubric form as an review guideline, where there is a link to this code of ethics. The reviewers identity will be protected forever and their anonymity is guaranteed when they review the author' manuscript. All material used in the peer review process will be considered reserved and confidential document while it is being reviewed. The process of peer evaluation is described in the website of the Journal.

  1. Reviewers should keep all information regarding papers confidential and treat them as privileged information.
  2. Reviews should be conducted objectively, with no personal criticism of the author
  3. Reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments
  4. Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors.
  5. Reviewers should also call to the Editor in Chief’s attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.
  6. Reviewers should not review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

Section D: Editors’ responsibilities

The editors are committed to a constant improvement of the editorial quality of the Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS)  to meet the demands and needs of readers and authors. Therefore they make sure to guarantee the quality of the published material, ensuring freedom of expression and preventing commercial, economic or other interests from being above the intellectual criteria. In necessary case, the Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS) is willing to publish the corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies that are accurate. Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS)  will publish articles according to their suitability or scientific quality and will not seek an economic or political benefit in any case. The Journal defends universal free access to the knowledge.

  1. Editors have complete responsibility and authority to reject/accept an article.
  2. Editors are responsible for the contents and overall quality of the publication.
  3. Editors should always consider the needs of the authors and the readers when attempting to improve the publication.
  4. Editors should guarantee the quality of the papers and the integrity of the academic record.
  5. Editors should publish errata pages or make corrections when needed.
  6. Editors should have a clear picture of research funding sources.
  7. Editors should base their decisions solely on the papers’ importance, originality, clarity, and relevance to the publication’s scope.
  8. Editors should not reverse their decisions nor overturn those of previous editors without serious reason.
  9. Editors should preserve the anonymity of reviewers.
  10. Editors should ensure that all research material they publish conforms to internationally accepted ethical guidelines.
  11. Editors should only accept a paper when reasonably certain.
  12. Editors should act if they suspect misconduct, whether a paper is published or unpublished, and make all reasonable attempts to persist in obtaining a resolution to the problem.
  13. Editors should not reject papers based on suspicions, they should have proof of misconduct.
  14. Editors should not allow any conflicts of interest between staff, authors, reviewers, and board members.

We understand that the authors have worked carefully in preparing manuscripts, and we carry out the peer-review processes. However, sometimes there is the potential for published articles to be withdrawn or even deleted for scientific reasons. It should not be done lightly and can only occur under extraordinary circumstances. Therefore, corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when needed will be carried out with strict standards to maintain confidence in the authority of its electronic archives. It is our commitment and policy to maintain the integrity and completeness of important scientific records for researchers' and librarians' archives.

Publication decisions

The editor of the Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS) is responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published. The validation of the work in question and its importance to researchers and readers must always drive such decisions. The editors may be guided by the policies of the journal's editorial board and constrained by such legal requirements as shall then be in force regarding libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism. The editors may confer with other editors or reviewers in making this decision.

Fair play

An editor at any time evaluates manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality

The editor and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.

Disclosure and conflicts of interest

Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author.

Data Access and Retention

Authors are asked to provide the raw data in connection with a paper for editorial review, and should be prepared to provide public access to such data (consistent with the ALPSP-STM Statement on Data and Databases), if practicable, and should in any event be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.

Hazards and Human or Animal Subjects

If the work involves chemicals, procedures, or equipment that have any unusual hazards inherent in their use, the author must clearly identify these in the manuscript

Content Integrity and Maintenance (Crossmark Policy)

Applying the CrossMark icon is a commitment by Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS) to maintain the content published and alert readers to changes if and when they occur. CrossMark, a multi-publisher initiative from CrossRef, provides a standard way for readers to locate the authoritative version of a document. Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS) recognizes the importance of the integrity and completeness of the scholarly record to researchers and librarians and attaches the highest importance to maintaining trust in the authority of its electronic archive. Clicking on the CrossMark icon will inform the reader of the current status of a document and may also provide additional publication record information about the document.

Retraction Policy

The papers published in the Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS) will be considered retracted in the publication if :

  1. They have clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of misconduct (e.g. data fabrication) or honest error (e.g. miscalculation or experimental error)
  2. The findings have previously been published elsewhere without proper crossreferencing, permission, or justification (i.e. cases of redundant publication)
  3. It constitutes plagiarism
  4. It reports unethical research

The mechanism of retraction follows the Retraction Guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) which can be accessed at https://publicationethics.org/files/retraction%20guidelines.pdf.

Withdrawal Policy

The author is not allowed to withdraw the submitted manuscripts because the withdrawal is a waste of valuable resources that editors and referees spent a great deal of time processing the submitted manuscripts, and works invested by the Publisher. For attention, before the author submits the manuscript through our OJS, the author is obliged to approve the checklist that we provide.

  • If the author requests the withdrawal of his/her manuscript when the manuscript is still in the peer-reviewing process, the author will be punished by paying Rp. 200.000 - IDR or US$ 20 per manuscript.
  • If the withdrawal of the manuscript after the manuscript is accepted for publication; the author will be punished by paying Rp. 300.000 - IDR  or US$ 30 per manuscript.
  • If an article has been published as "Article in Press" (articles that have been accepted for publication but which have not been formally published and will not have the complete volume/issue/page information) that include errors, or are discovered to be accidental duplicates of other published article (s), or are determined to violate our journal publishing ethics guidelines in the view of the editors (such as multiple submissions, bogus claims of authorship, plagiarism, fraudulent use of data or the like), maybe "Withdrawn" from the Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS)  website. Withdrawing means that the article content (HTML and PDF) is deleted and replaced with an HTML page and PDF simply states that the article has been withdrawn. In this case, the author will be punished by paying Rp. 500.000 - IDR or US$ 40 per manuscript.
  • If the author doesn't agree to pay the penalty, the author and his/her affiliation will be blacklisted for publication in this journal (3 years).
  • If the author request to withdraw a manuscript, an official letter signed by the corresponding author and agency leader must be sent to the Editor in Chief.

Correction Policy

Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS) will consider issuing a correction if:

  • A small part of an otherwise reliable publication reports flawed data or proves to be misleading, especially if this is the result of honest error.
  • The Author or Contributor list is incorrect (e.g. a deserving Author has been omitted or someone who does not meet authorship criteria has been included).

Corrections to peer-reviewed content fall into one of three categories:

  • Publisher correction (erratum): to notify readers of an important error made by publishing/journal staff (usually a production error) that has a negative impact on the publication record or the scientific integrity of the article, or the reputation of the Authors or the journal.
  • Author correction (corrigendum): to notify readers of an important error made by the Authors which has a negative impact on the publication record or the scientific integrity of the article, or the reputation of the Authors or the journal.
  • Addendum: an addition to the article by its Authors to explain inconsistencies, to expand the existing work, or otherwise explain or update the information in the main work.

The decision of whether a correction should be issued is made by the Editor(s) of a journal, sometimes with advice from Reviewers or Editorial Board members. Handling Editors will contact the Authors of the paper concerned with a request for clarification, but the final decision about whether a correction is required and if so which type rests with the Editors.

Article Removal

In an extremely limited number of cases, it may be necessary to remove a published article from our online platform. This will only happen if an article is clearly defamatory, or infringes others’ legal rights, or where the article is, or we have good reason to expect that it will be, the subject of a court order, or where the article, if acted upon, may pose a serious health risk. In such circumstances, while the metadata (i.e. title and author information) of the article will be retained, the text will be replaced with a screen indicating that the article has been removed for legal reasons.

Article Replacement

In cases where an article, if acted upon, may pose a serious health risk, the Authors of the original paper may wish to retract the flawed original and replace it with a corrected version. Under such circumstances, the above procedures for retraction will be followed with the difference that the article retraction notice will contain a link to the corrected re-published article together with a history of the document.

 Conflict Resolution

Potential conflicts of interest between authors, reviewers, or the editorial team itself, will be resolved through the necessary arbitration mechanisms. The Ethics Committee of Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS) will understand the resolution of these and other conflicts, and will also ensure compliance with this code of ethics and good practices.

Claims and Promotion of Scientific Debate

Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS) undertakes to respond to complaints or claims received once the assessment process is concluded and resolved. Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS) will admit the publication of critical articles about previous items published, always they meet the criteria of editorial and scientific quality, offering also the possibility of rejoinder.

Follow Up of Bad Practices

Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS) assumes the obligation to monitor bad practices or inappropriate behaviours, both for published and unpublished documents, therefore manuscripts that raise reasonable doubts will be rejected, and it is committed to reporting cases of alleged misconduct. If you have proof that any published work present inaccuracies, distortions or manipulations interested, should be corrected immediately, removing those articles that have evidence of a fraudulent content. The readers and the indexing systems will be informed immediately, if necessary. We will consider bad practices the simultaneous submission of a single manuscript to several journals, duplicate publication (or with irrelevant changes) of the same work, or the artificial fragmentation of the same work in several articles. These cases will be reported.

Academic integrity

Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS) considers plagiarism and self-plagiarism unacceptable practices, we will take initiatives to check and ensure the originality of the shipments. Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS) guarantees the confidentiality of the individual information of collaborators, subjects of study, respondents, etc. of the investigations that are presented. The authors must have the relevant authorizations to reproduce images or provide data on people or commercial products. In any case, the author must always quote the origin of the sources used.

Plagiarism Policy

Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS) apply Zero tolerance towards plagiarism and therefore establishes the following policy stating specific actions (penalties) when plagiarism is identified in an article that is submitted for publication in Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS).

Definition: Plagiarism involves the "use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work".

Policy: Papers must be original, unpublished, and not pending publication elsewhere. Any material taken verbatim from another source needs to be clearly identified as different from the present original text by (1) indentation, (2) use of quotation marks, and (3) identification of the source.

Any text of an amount exceeding fair use standards (herein defined as more than two or three sentences or the equivalent thereof) or any graphic material reproduced from another source requires permission from the copyright holder and, if feasible, the original author(s) and also requires identification of the source; e.g., previous publication. All submitted papers will be checked for their similarity level before proceeding to the review process.

It is understood that the authors are responsible for the contents of the papers they send because they confirm the paper's originality statement before submission and have read this plagiarism policy. If the second case of severe plagiarism by the same author(s) is identified, a decision on the measures to be enforced will be made by the Editorial board. The author(s) might be forbidden to submit further articles forever. This policy applies also to material reproduced from another publication by the same author(s). If an author uses text or figures that have previously been published, the corresponding paragraphs or figures should be identified and the previous publication referenced. It is understood that in case of a review paper or a paper of a tutorial nature much of the material was previously published.

The author should identify the source of the previously published material and obtain permission from the original author and the publisher. If an author submits a manuscript to Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS) with significant overlap with a manuscript submitted to another journal simultaneously, and this overlap is discovered during the review process or after the publications of both papers, the editor of the other journal is notified and the case is treated as a severe plagiarism case. Significant overlap means the use of identical or almost identical figures and identical or slightly modified text for one half or more of the paper. For self-plagiarism of less than one-half of the paper but more than one-tenth of the paper, the case shall be treated as intermediate plagiarism. If self-plagiarism is confined to the methods section, the case shall be considered minor plagiarism.

If an author uses some of his previously published material to clarify the presentation of new results, the previously published material shall be identified and the difference to the present publication shall be mentioned. Permission to republish must be obtained from the copyright holder. In the case of a manuscript that was originally published in conference proceedings and then is submitted for publication in Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan Sains (JPMS)either in identical or in expanded form, the authors must identify the name of the conference proceedings and the date of the publication and obtain permission to republish from the copyright holder. The editor may decide not to accept this paper for publication. However, an author shall be permitted to use material from an unpublished presentation, including visual displays, in a subsequent journal publication. In the case of a publication being submitted, that was originally published in another language, the title, date, and journal of the original publication must be identified by the authors, and the copyright must be obtained.
