Editorial Independence

Editorial Independence  ·  JIPSINDO
Decisions on scholarly grounds alone.
Who cannot influence decisions, the freedom of the editors, and what happens if independence is threatened.
01Policy▾
The editors of JIPSINDO (Jurnal Pendidikan Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial Indonesia) decide on manuscripts independently, on scholarly grounds alone. Neither the publisher, the partner association, funders, authors, nor any other party can influence which manuscripts are reviewed, accepted, or published. This follows the COPE Core Practice on journal management and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.
Final authorityThe Editor-in-Chief, on the advice of the editors and reviewers
PublisherUniversitas Negeri Yogyakarta: appoints the Editor-in-Chief, provides resources, approves policies, and guarantees editorial independence
02Who cannot influence decisions▾
The publisherUNY does not ask the editors to accept or reject a manuscript, and does not see manuscripts or reviews.
Funders and feesDecisions do not depend on the Article Publication Charge, waivers, or funding. The APC is requested only after acceptance. See Author Fees.
Advertisers and sponsorsThe journal has none. See the Advertising Policy and Sponsorship Policy.
Governments and political actorsContent is not changed or withheld because of political pressure, as long as it meets the journal’s ethical and legal standards.
Authors and othersPressure, lobbying, or offers of payment or favours are refused, and may be treated as misconduct.
03Freedom of the editors▾
—  The editors decide the content of each issue, the review process, and the policies of the journal, in line with COPE.
—  The journal publishes research on sensitive topics, including politics, religion, identity, and human rights, when it is sound, ethical, and within the scope, including work that is critical of governments or institutions, the publisher among them.
—  Editors are free to publish corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions when needed, without approval from the publisher.
—  Editors cannot be removed because of an editorial decision made in good faith. Appointment and removal follow published procedures.
04Responsibilities that come with independence▾
—  Editors declare competing interests and step aside where needed. See Editorial Competing Interests.
—  Manuscripts by editors are handled independently. See Submissions from Editors.
—  Decisions follow the published Peer Review Process and are explained to authors.
—  Editors are accountable through appeals and complaints. See Editorial Appeals and the Complaints Policy.
05If independence is threatened▾
Any attempt to interfere with an editorial decision is reported to the Editor-in-Chief, and, if it involves the Editor-in-Chief, to the publisher. The journal documents such attempts and refuses them. Authors, reviewers, or editors who experience pressure can write in confidence to the Contact page. See Whistleblowing & Ethics Complaints.
06No payment linked to decisions▾
Editors and reviewers receive no payment, honorarium, or other benefit that depends on whether a manuscript is accepted. Whether an author pays the APC or asks for a waiver is not visible to reviewers and has no part in the decision.
07COPE 5.0 alignment: separation of payments and decisions▾
—  Editors who decide on manuscripts do not handle APC invoices, payments, or waiver requests; these are handled by the journal's administrative team, separately from the editors who decide on manuscripts.
—  Editors receive no payment that depends on the number of articles accepted.
—  The relationship between the owner (Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta) and the editors is described on the Ownership and Management page.
